I couldnt find any, and still cant for that matter but recently I settled for a pound of the IMR Enduron version IMR 7977. I havent ran any tests with either. All in time.
I know your 168gr TSXs have worked, but the best thing about the mono metal bullets is you dont need to throw extra weight like you do with the cup and cores. For deer Id be using 130s and elk and up youd still be fine with no more than a 150 from your 308.
Id venture to say that a 130 TSX...
Agree with FOTIS, if it passes the paperclip test, and the primer pockets are still tight enough to hold a primer, then Id keep loading until you get a crack in the neck, shoulder, or the primer pockets loosen up. YMMV.
I dont know how many containers the store you bought it had on the shelves, but Alliant has discontinued that powder.
Have you tried the Western Powders Blackhorn 209?
I share many of the same concerns that you guys do. Its already occurred to me that they will be able to almost set their own price since the now control Hodgdon, IMR, Winchester, and are adding Accurate, Ramshot, and Blackhorn209. Hodgdon hasnt been great with keeping up with the demand for...
I had always heard great things about Rws brass and I just thought id give it a shot.
I do have some Lapua for my 8x57 and wish that Lapua made 7x57 but for the life of me, I do not understand why they dont.
I would like to try some RWS brass in 7x57 or 8x57 or both. I know that Huntington Reloading sells some of their products, but I can only find the 8x57 rimmed version and I need it for a 8x57 bolt action. I was wondering if anyone knew of a place to purchase RWS brass.
Im looking for a starting point to use Reloader 26 in my 280 Ackley Improved with the Sierra 165gr GameChanger. I have several loading manuals that have data for the the 280 AI but none of them have Reloader 26 listed. I emailed Sierra and they didnt bother to reply. Could someone run this...
Ridgerunner, I doubt youd hear anything from them on the issue anyways. I did email them and still haven't gotten a response.
I checked mine again for the donut in the neck you mentioned and I dont see it or feel it on mine that I can tell. Im going to load it and use it since I already paid...
Ridgerunner,
After seeing your picture that you posted, I agree with your assesment. The box I bought was of the same batch obviously, because my headstamps are the same as the one on the left in the picture you posted.
Have you emailed Nosler, to see if they would shed any light into the...
I bought some Nosler 280 AI brass from Midway back in January and while its usable, its terrible for what I paid for it. I had to trim every single piece to get it to min case length, About 30 of the case mouths were out of round, and the primer flash holes had to be deburred.
I dont mind the...
Everyone is different and you might get several different answers, but I personally use Imperial sizing wax and I apply a thin film to the inside of the case neck with a q-tip. After Ive sized all my brass, I just tumble again and it takes all the case wax away from the inside of my case necks...
Orezona,
I completely understand your point you made about being bent on a 280AI. I just recently picked up a Kimber 84 in 280AI. I didn't really have a good reason as to why I wanted one other than I just wanted one. I bought mine for strictly a hunting gun. Mine has a 24" barrel on it and...
The Sierra 175gr Pro Hunter is on my list of bullets to try, but I haven't picked up any yet. I also have some Hornady 170gr SST, and some Speer 170gr Semi Spitzers, some Nosler 180gr BT, and some Nosler 200gr Partitions to try as well. I tell my dad all the time, I have more bullets to try...
I won't argue with you about the shot angle/selection. I'll just say it was immediately terminal and the deer never moved. I'll reiterate that this was the only shot I had and i felt confident in making it. Given the choice I'd much rather have a good broadside shot but this was not an option...
Ive had great luck with the Nosler 120gr Ballistic Tip from my 7x57 so I decided I would try a Sierra 120gr ProHunter and see how well that bullet worked. Here are some results.
Shot distance was 58 yards, and it was bang flop at the shot.

Back in the Summer, I developed a load for my Sauer 100 Ceratech 8x57IS. I conducted a jug test with successful results and I finally got to put the load to work on a couple deer this fall.

Hornady 150gr. .323" Interlock
Lapua Brass

My son killed another deer a couple weeks ago with the 6.5 Creedmoor using the same load I previously reported on. This time he made a better shot. Thought I would give another report. No bullet recovered this go around. This was a bang flop shot as Ive instructed Brandon to shoot on the...
