Tried it with the expander ball removed and a different shell holder. One of the cases seemed like was working, it went in 3 times, then on the 4th try no go, tried it again and same thing, the other 5 cases were no change.
Cases are trimmed as far as I can trim them back with the tools I have, they are within spec according to the numbers on my lee die instructions and are the same as mt factory winchester ammo I have on hand. It appears to be the body on the case that is not being brought back into spec. When I...
I am still having trouble with FL sizing in some of my 270 wsm cases. I am using winchester brass and lee dies. Some of my cases just won't re-size properly, I tried turning my die down gradually until it was almost a full turn past the shell holder and still they won't chamber in my rifle. It...
Got out to the range for a bit today, conditions weren't great though, cold and windy! I loaded up 15 with 55 grain hornady sp and 10 with 55 grain v-max. Neither were real accurate but it might have been more the shooter than anything else as I may have been rushing my shots a bit due to the...
Just picked up a pound of this new powder today, has anyone tried it yet? It looks to give excellent velocities in the 55 and 60 grain bullet weights in .223, which is what I shoot the most of. Supposed to prevent copper fouling as well, which isn't much of a concern in my rifle anyway, but is a...
I would go with the ruger or the 1-8 twist tikka, they are much more versatile than a 1-12 twist gun. I have a ruger that I bought in 2006 that is a 12 twist and constantly find myself wanting to sell it to get a 9 twist. Save yourself from the same fate and get a 1-9 twist the first time.
I use the 100 grain partition in mine, with 42.7 grains of imr 4350. Works well, shot a small buck with it two years ago at 50 yards, behind the shoulder. He dropped in his tracks!
Warm here too in Nova Scotia, very little snow and most lakes only have a couple inches of ice on them. Normally we would have had a couple good snow storms by now, the ones we have had turned to rain half way through. Good for the deer herd though, as the last couple of winters we had lots of...
I have one in a m70 supershadow, I'm not really a fan of the blind magazine, bit the rifle is a shooter and is a great deer/coyote rifle, so I will hang onto it until I can find a nice used ultimate shadow that has the floor plate. Unfortunately they are not being chambered anymore in new...
I'm using 26g of h4895 with 60 g sierra varminters and v max bullets, both are very accurate with the edge going to the sierras, which will normally shoot under 3/4" at 100 yards. I am also using 26.5 grains of H4895 with 55 grain sierras with excellent results, usually under 1/2" out of my 1-12...
Yes I am planning to have it mounted, I've waited too long and may not ever get one this nice again. My wife isn't real crazy about it but she will learn to accept it I'm sure.
Thanks for the comments fellas, it was quite an experience and yes the nosler BT was really put to the test on a close range shot like that. As expected the bullet didn't exit and I never did find it , but it certainly seems to have done it's job! .
Shot a nice 8 point whitetail this morning while still hunting into my spot just as a snow storm was hitting. I hit him in the neck face on at only 10 yards with my x bolt .270 wsm with a 140 gr BT. He collapsed right in his tracks and hardly even twitched. Still can't believe I got so close to...
