My first deer in 5 years

Thanks guys. It's nice to be back out in the field glassing, climbing hills and be with nature. I shot the buck at around 225-226 lasered yards. I was testing the effectiveness of the 175 grain Barnes LRX BT for hunting. My model 70 like this round better than my old standby, the 180 grain TTSX...

My first deer in 5 years

Well, believe it or not guys I'm still hunting and shooting although not as much as I used to since I got into cycling. That's the reason why I haven't been active in this forum for quite sometime. All that probably will change starting next year. I will ease up on my cycling and hunt and shoot...

This guy won an IBS National using his Midway rest? I'm not sure yet if I will use a pedestal rest or a bipod. I guess I have to go to couple of this comp and see where I'm at and then invest on proper equipment. http://www.accurateshooter.com/guns-of-week/gunweek063/ Word from Jeff Cochran...

I'll chronograph it and verify. I use 95 grains of Retumbo for both. It should start at about the same velocity.

    300 Berger Hybrid OTM

This is the first time loading the 300 Grain Berger Hybrid OTM for my 338 Lapua Ackley. I haven't used nothing but SMK for this rifle so I don't know what to expect. I run the data through my Ballistic program and to my surprised the 300 grain SMK has a bit better performance downrange than the...

Do I really need this rifle.

Well Bud, I know the rifle will shoot. I'm used to high power scope and a 16 lbs rifle with less than a pound trigger pull. So shooting this 6 lbs rifle with 6.5lb trigger and a 6X scope making one hole 3 shot group got me so fired up. I know it's only 50 yards but it might as well 500 yards...

Do I really need this rifle.

Well guys, I went to the range this afternoon braving the cold at 48 deg F ( that's right, it's cold for us Cali boys)and a 15 mph wind, to zero the AR. I didn't expect much. I have a box of 20 Hornady 55 grain Z-max that I thought I could waste to zero the rifle. I set up the target at 50...
