I was always taught don't assume when using different lot numbers of any powder. As such I buy 3 x lbs min and sometimes more of the same lot#. I don't usually buy 5lbs kegs b/c if I don't like the powder or it causes problems I am stuck with a ton of powder and feel the need to make it work...
Maybe to late, could give the 460gr No Excuses conical a look for comparison. I used them to take elk, moose and few deer. Accurate and devasting on game, IME. This was from my original inline, a gonic using 120 gr of RS. I'd try them with 777 up to a max of 100 gr in your pursuit...
I haven't had a problem with RL22, so I'll just keep pushing it in my gun until the time comes, I guess :o .
2506, 7828 has been an awesome powder for me and other who shoot 7mm rem mags, STW's and 300 wsm/wm. In my case I load it under 160 gr pills, living in Saskatchewan, Canada where it...
Sorry no saum but I use a 7mm rem mag and 150BT's. My mainstay was 4831/150BT, however i switched to RL22 and haven't had a problem. In fact it is my primary powder in the 7 mags, consistant, accurate and fast. Being I hunt in Saskatchewan, Canada where the core temp can be as low as -30 or...
I agree completely.
My experience with the AB (be it not a real long one) has been 4 animals in as many shots and no recovered bullets. Of the 4 animals I have harvest with the AB - 1 Bull moose (100yards) and 1 Bull Elk (50 yards). As mentioned I never found a bullet so received complete...
I have taken 25 plus deer sized game with the BT out of several cartridges from 50-400 yards. All but one of those deer exited the animals, the majority were rib shots where the exits were 1-2". I have in recent years taken several bucks with 150bt out of 7mm rem mag through the opposite...
Slats have you tried IMR7828 with 160/AB? My rem mag (also a 700 bdl action) loves 66gr of 7828 under 160AB and 215 GMM's. A close second is RL 22 at 64.5gr/215GMM. Both loads top 3000fps and under moa.
I'll second RL22 under 140 AB, was developing a load this year in hopes of getting a...
Have you tried the TSX yet? It takes care of a couple of your pet peeves - accurate(not finnicky) and reduced copper fouling. While still spendy it will retain close 100% and very high BC. I don't think it will be going anywhere soon as it really is developing or maybe converting (back)...
I haven't used Imr 4831 for awhile in my 7mm rem mag but would say 61-65gr should find you a load (caution 65 over the nolser max so work up slowly in .5's).
My 160AB load is 66gr of IMR 7828(again over nosler publshed max), 215GMM and RP brass. RL22 is another great 7mag powder, I use it the...
250 sst under 43 N110 or 43.5 IMR 4759SR shoots nicley in my 10II. Both produce good groups at 100 and 200 yards which is about all I need for this fall. 240 XTP also works well with both loads in my rifle.
300 gr loads I have shot where with 300 xtps and shockwaves, in that 60 gr of N120...
RL22 is my most used 7 rem mag powder now. I have had good results with 140 BT and AB's under RL22. 64-70 grs but work up slowly!
I use 215GMM primers and Rem brass.
Moose guy, my partner always used GS in his 280 but for whatever reason last year tried the 160AB. His accuracy improved slightly vs the GS but obviously your load or talent is better than his (I doubt a switch will improve your .5 group at 200!). He took a bull elk, bull moose and whitetail...
150NP would be where I'd start. I have successfully taken moose and elk with it in a 270win and one fella in my elk camp shoots everything with this load in his(and the boys) 270 wins. I have yet to see him need a second shot and has gotten his elk all 8 season I have had the pleasure to hunt...
To be honest I have had good results on deer sized game from a number of bullets, but my favorite has been the NBT. I will say the AB is making a strong case for itself now, just hasn't had as many filled tags to match up to the NBT standards.
Shot placements is paramount but I still like a...
I have taken elk and/or moose with 140, 150 and 160 gr PT's out of a 7mm rem mag. On a broadside shot little difference can be made out IME but agree on a tough angle the larger grain size will lend itself to better penetration.
I personally wouldn't have any problems using a 140 Pt if it...
While I am sure it can be done or has be done the 150 NBT, not what I would want for a draw moose tag (or any moose/elk hunt for that matter). Let me first say I love the 150 BT for deer down...so not a BT hater in any fashion. Ok with that said, I have harvested many moose with a variety of...
Agree 150 PT would be my first choice. I used it successfully to harvest both moose and elk from my 270 win. 140 CT Failsafe also worked well in one of my 270's for a couple moose.
I picked up a savage this spring and have to agree with the above post...in a nutshell 10II is a sweet shooter. I have tried 3 powders in it and all produced loads shooting 1" or better with nothing done in mods. Haven't settled on a load for the fall but have 2 loads with 250gr sst that are...
