If I have another 30 built, it will either be a long throated 300WM, or a 308 Norma. Well, or a lighter weight 308, this one is mayhaps a touché heaby.

    348/358---300 H & H/35 Whelen

Actually, I see no point in throwing the same weight bullet, at lower velocities, just because it is .020" fatter. And, I've always wanted a 338something.

Thanks for the input. I'm thinking 338-06AI in a long action with a 26" tube. Probably send it to ER Shaw & let them put it together. I was originally thinking CRF mod 70, but this in LH has peaked my interest: http://www.nwactionworks.com/actions . Again, thank You

    348/358---300 H & H/35 Whelen

I'm still in the planning stages: I was thinking 24" or 26". If I have to drop to the 225 Accubonds, so be it.

    348/358---300 H & H/35 Whelen

    It's sounding like the 225 Accubonds & a 26" tube is what's needed for reliable 2700fps.

    348/358---300 H & H/35 Whelen

So a Wyatt's blind magazine pared with a regular Long action should be enough length for just about any 250 grain combo? 2700 fps 250gr Accubonds from a 338-06 sounds pure sexy.

    348/358---300 H & H/35 Whelen

Is there any benefit to using a magnum action over a Long action for the 338-06? I was under the impression the 338-06 ammo could be fired from a 338-06 AI chambered rifle if in a pinch? Am I mistaken?

    348/358---300 H & H/35 Whelen

Hello, I'm debating a similar issue: 1. 35 Whelen 2. 358 Winchester 3. 338-06 AI All around bigger than a 30 cal to handle anything in NA. I hand load. I'm not opposed to a 338WM, but I'm reading that there are better choices. The platform will probably be some old bolt action: a pre '64...

    Cartridge for youth hunter

Remington Model 7 in .243, .260, 7-08, even .308 with the managed recoil loads. I like the .260 enough that I own 1: the 6.5 Creed is the Ballistic twin with a shorter case to accommodate more bullet protrusion with similar COAL. The negative of the 6.5 Creed is that it's not offered in some...
