Nice. I'm hoping I can get a higher node around 3000fps to shoot at least 3/8-1/2 MOA.
I've got roughly 2 bricks each of the BR4s and 450s, and a little over 5 bricks of the 7.5s for this 223. Just can't decide if I want to go with the CCIs first, knowing I'll have to switch over to the 7.5s...
I remember them coming in the 2# canisters years ago in the US, I want to say like 15 years ago. For some reason now they're only in 1#, and of course the 8# kegs.
Part of the reason I never tried it previously was the fact it came in 2# canisters, so if it didn't work out, you had quite a bit...
TD284 Yes I believe that's probably the case with the CCI 400s. I did a good bit of research on them before I loaded them, but thought I could get away with it. I didn't have any problems with them in the starline brass out of 80 rounds, but that brass wasn't exceeding my chamber length either...
I've never used Vihtavouri powder until about a week ago in my 223, specifically N540. It offers the best speed in the 223 with heavy bullets and is very slow burning for the cartridge. Its just a little faster than 4350 on the burn rate chart. Vihtavouri calls for 25.8g with a 75g ELDM which I...
I put brakes on everything 6mm or above. It's not about the recoil, it's about shooting better, longer, amd spotting your own shots, plain and simple. There's not 1 person I know who doesn't shoot a rifle better, or would benefit from a rifle that recoils less with a good brake...
The Vortex Razor HD line is a very good Scope. I shoot with a good friend of mine that has one on his 338 Lapua and I've shot and looked through it a couple different times. I wouldn't have any issues running it if I had to that's for sure.
It's just at that price point, I'd still rather have...
Good to know. I plan to put it on either my 223 or 6 creed. Worth the $2400 price tag you think? Anything you don't like about it? I like the 100 MOA elevation adjust over the 70 of my current MK4s...The glass should also be a huge upgrade, and lastly the PR2 reticle seems super nice to have for...
That is a dandy scope that should serve you very well! Congratulations!!
I am looking at a MK5 HD 7-35x with the PR2 MOA reticle myself. Seen one at the local gun shop the other day and fell in love with it. Way better than my current dinosaur 6-20x and 8-25x MK4s haha.
Sounds like a pretty good day to me.
I was able to score 5 bricks of Rem 7.5 primers for $80/ brick for the 223, a brick of SK long range for $100 for the CZ457, and a pound of N540 for $48 to try in the 223 with the 75 ELDMs yesterday all at the LGS. Nice to see some things on the shelves for...
The only difference is the numbers...This is my 7-300 Win Mag/180g ELDMs at 3100. Strelok Pro (which by the way is the best shooters app period) but good luck getting it now thanks to our worthless government. Anyways, you range, you dial to what it says, and you shoot. It doesn't make any...
It doesn't matter at the end of the day. One is 1/4" and the other is basically .36"
In other words, MOA is a tad finer. However, you usually get more revolutions/range with a MIL based scope.
I'm old, I learned on MOA over 25 years ago and will never change. It really doesn't make a craps...
Primer swaps definitely make a difference. I usually test at least 2 primers with every rifle/load combo and they always show a preference for 1 over the other in accuracy, ES, or both.
Last I knew, the 3rd owner of that rifle has killed a few elk and bears with it and absolutely loves it, and will never sell it. Still shooting the 300g SMKs with 92g H1K. It was a hammer indeed, on both ends 🤣
The only other target bullet I've used with great success was the big 338" 300g SMK from the 338 EDGE at 2850fps. It smacked elk like you wouldn't believe and left baseball size exits out to 900 yards. But I much prefer my little 7mm Mags these days with 180s, they're just a tad easier to shoot.
It's kinda funny, you wouldn't imagine all the flack I get for using them for LR big game hunting. Really only by people who don't know any better or different though so it doesnt bother me any...They certainly have their place for hunting if you know their limitations and do your job as a...
I also think I'm going to try and get some N540 and use that with the Lapua cases. Seems the next most logical choice based on availability and speeds based on my research. Keep ya guys posted! I'm loving this little 223. So much fun and cheap to shoot. Can't wait to start stretching it out to...
I don't believe Norma makes 240 brass anymore. That was one of the main reasons I rebarreled my 240 to a 6 Creed. Brass was just non existent for the last 3 years and I wasn't about to buy factory weatherby ammo just for the brass.
I would say you're pright, IMR4895 also isn't to bad with the 75s either since it has little vertical also. Those 3 definitely show the most promise with the 75s. Which is OK because I'm fairly certain Benchmark is going to kill it with the 52 ELDMs/53 VMAXs.
I have 4# of IMR4895, 1# of H4895...
