    New project

I received my new Lee 6.5x300WSM dies the other day. First Lee dies for me. Great deal for $32! I promptly resized all my brass and built several dummy rounds. The 142gr LRAB seated at 3.040" puts the bottom of the bearing surface at the bottom of the neck. Just about perfect. Three dummies...

Range day with .284 and .264 LRAB. . .what gives?

+1 on the above replies. I usually remove the seater plug and test it on a bullet to check fit. I'm looking to see that the bullet sets at the ogive and not the tip. I too, have drilled seater plugs to obtain a better fit. You just want ensure a consistent depth and base to ogive measurement. I...

    Man, I'm Beat Up

Dr.Mike, So glad to hear you made it out to the range. I'm interested in how the 8x68 does for you. It seems to like what your feeding it. I wonder how it would like the 220gr Sierra? Hope all your aches vanish quickly - anymore, I often Take Advil preemptively to ward off the ever reoccurring...

    Twist for a 6.5 Barrel

A 6.5-280AI wouldn't need fireforming if you used Nosler brass. 8) I think you'd darn near get 6.5 WSM velocities too. Scott

Range day with .284 and .264 LRAB. . .what gives?

I had trouble with them in my 280AI but that rifle is hard pressed to put BTs or ABs into an inch at 100yds. My Creedmoor and 28Nosler shoot'em into an easy .5moa. I did start loading them with a VLD seater and also sorted them by length to ogive. Surprisingly I found quite a bit of variance...

Found a set and have them on the way. That's a whole lot less than a set of "S" Type. Thanks Nathan

Good point Nathan, A type "S" bushing die with the bushing and expander changed out would work just fine. Scott

    New project

Thanks guys, I'm using a Benchmark #3 with a 1 in 8 twist. Going to leave it long at 26". I have a M70 in 270WSM that has a 3.040 mag box so I'll have it throated long. Since I have 250 brass and lots of 6.5 bullets for my Creedmoor I'm half way there. I'm planning on using one of my Leupold...

    Twist for a 6.5 Barrel

1 in 8 will work just fine. I run a 1 in 8 on my Creedmoor and it stabilizes the 140s just fine. Look at Benchmark barrels; you can get the same or better barrel for about $295 from their distributor. Scott

    New project

Ordered the reamer today. Have the donor. Barrel is inbound. Building it on a CRF Win 70 and dropping it into a McMillan stock. Hope to keep it at 8.5lbs. Planning on shooting the 142LRAB. Scott

    300wby and 200 gr Partitions?

Just helped a friend work up a load for his M70 300Bee. 200gr NAB over 83gr of IMR7828ssc, Hornady brass, WinLR mag primers at an OAL of 3.6". It's shooting 3/4" groups at 3040fps out of a 24" barrel. Gonna be a great Elk combo! Scott

Photo essay of last bedding job

TD, I use Acragel/Acraglass that I thicken with fulminated silica. Stays in place and leaves a clean finish. Nathan, The holes don't look it but I have them at 30-45 degrees and in different directions. I do the same thing - pull the action at 7-8hrs and clean up; then reassemble and finish...

Searching for the perfect sage rat rifle.

In my estimation the perfect rat rifle needs have a lesser report(so as not to scare the ones within 100 yards into their burrows), low recoil(to see the hit in the scope ), easily changed and loaded magazines(to keep the rate of fire up; it's a target rich environment 8), shoot 1/2MOA...
