I'm getting a 7mm Weatherby Magnum and am asking you 7mm Wby shooters for your recommendations on hunting loads for deer and elk. I know every barrel is different and what shoots very well in your rifle might not do so well with mine. The bullets I have and would like to test are 150 grain...
I think two things are at work with this new bullet tip. (1) Other bullet companies will either pay for the new tip or develop their own IF they believe Hornady has discovered something that benefits the bullet accuracy. (2) The other companies will continue with their current production...
I have never shot one but I've heard so many good things about them that I want one in 270 Win. The X2 model seems to be the one, although something in wood is always nice.
You can also buy the actions and put your own barrel and stock on it.
I have the Sporter. It gives easy to read numbers in ft/sec and tracks something around the last 12 shots. There are several sensitivity levels for it. I've left mine at the factory setting and been nothing short of totally happy with it. Windy, cloudy or bright sunny days don't effect the...
Heat rising from the ground alters your view of the target. Many times the target appears to have a wave-like movement. The more heat rising from the ground, the greater or heavier the wave motion. Add to this a cross wind and the waves will appear to move at an angle. The greater the wind, the...
Some days the accuracy or luck isn't there, for what ever reason or compounded reasons. Mirage, cross winds, swirling winds, distractions from other shooters such as a loud-mouth range snob filling the air with his "guidance" or "experience" can erode otherwise good times.
I have changed my mind. I will pick up a box of the 143gn bullets for my 6.5mm Creedmoor. I'm into working new loads. Of course this is not a have to do it thing, but if this long ranger really delivers better accuracy than I'm all for it.
The 129gn SSTs at ~2975fps at the muzzle grouped 3" @...
This changes how other manufacturers will look at their tipped bullets. I won't need any of the tipped bullets soon, but that's OK. I have a ton a load data for the older SSTs and Interlocks.
You can stuff 46.5gn of Superformance in the case with the 130gn Swift Scirocco II. I've been using that and had zero pressure signs. I've also had .67" groups @ 100 yards and 2.5" groups at 300 yards, so as far as hunting rifle accuracy goes, those groups are fine withe me. I also have a 24"...
The 140 AB is a great bullet. Moreover, go with what your rifle shoots best. It just might be a 150gn bullet vs the lighter ones......your rifle will let you know. I met a guy who lived on and hunted Kodiak Island for about 20ish years and his 270 Win was always loaded with 150gn Partitions.
I have thought about the same thing. I can also see why the brass presses would be churning out thousands of the most popular cases without a break in production. We know the 280 Rem and 280 Ackley aren't in the top overall sales (but they should be). Nosler might only make them for X number of...
Last summer I met a hunter who used the 150gn Partition with his 270 Win for all the game he hunted on Kodiak Island. I don't remember how long he was on the island, but I think it was around 20 years.
I would stick with the 140s. They'll do better against a cross wind. If they shed 20ish grains in the mushrooming process, they'll still weight 120ish, plus they're more likely to penetrate deeper.
Working on the seating depths or the powder charge is a way to go as long as you only change one variable at a time. The best load with your 139gn bullets may work even better with a 140gn boat tail bullet. My 280 did better with H-4350, RL-19 and Superformance than with anything I tried with...
Silly question, but is it the same bullet? One with a higher BC would have a higher velocity with all other things being equal. Differences between chronographs or the sensing level could be at work. The most likely causes for a velocity increase have been mentioned.
I'm getting a 7mm Wby Mag with an P14 Enfield receiver and a 24" ER Shaw barrel. My plan is to use Swift's 150gn Scirocco IIs, 160gn A-Frames, or Nosler's 160gn Accubonds. A run of Quick Load would be appreciated.
Thank you.
