It depends. If it’s something that gets a lot of action, I may keep several hundred cases and loaded rounds on hand. The .22-250, .30-06, and .357 Magnum for example. I don’t load .22 LR or 20 gauge shotgun but keep lots of ammo around for them.
If it’s an oldie that I love to shoot but don’t...
Re: Powders
I could easily get by with Varget, IMR4350 and H4831(sc) in rifles, and Ramshot Enforcer and Silhouette in handguns.
I do use many others but those three have my bases covered.
Ramshot Enforcer is basically the same thing as 2400. I use it in my .25-20 and .357 Magnums. Very accurate and shoots cleaner than 2400 ever did. Plus since it’s Ramshot, it goes for like $25-30 a pound instead of $65-70 like everything else is these days.
I’ve been around .338 Win Mags all my life, have shot lots of them, but have yet to have taken game with one.
Shot a .338 RUM right after they came out. Impressive.
Have loaded .340 Weatherby Mag for a friend who doesn’t like paying over $100 a box for factory stuff.
The only game animal I...
I had never heard of it before yesterday. Looks kinda like the Gibbs cases, blown out length, minimal neck. It must be something like that to be able to fire a .338-06 in the chamber.
Unfortunately life is short. Shorter for some than others. A young fellow who I guided hunters with was killed in an accident on a local ranch a couple of weeks back. I don’t think he was even 30. Left behind a wife and two kids. His wife is who found him.
Nicest guy you’ve ever met. 😔
If I had to guess, it was too long for 1-14” twist barrels to stabilize, and too short for the fast twist guys who worship the feet of the “B.C. is everything” idol.
While a .22-250 makes a decent deer rifle with a good bullet, shot placement etc. its bailiwick has always been 50-55 grain...
I’m pretty much always perpetually hunting coyotes and chucks throughout the year. The .22-250 usually is the go-to but when the ground squirrels are out a .22 LR, or my old .25-20 get to come out and play some. Rattlesnakes generally get a dose of whatever handgun happens to be holstered on my...
Does anyone own one of these?
Before I incur the wrath of the “AR-15 or die” club, let me say I have owned an AR-15 and simply didn’t care for it. It was loud, heavy and I didn’t like the lines. I sighted it in and played with it at the range. The rest of the time it sat in the corner. Meh...
