    A bear finally

Very Awesome! Thanks for sharing! That .338 RUM with a 250 grain AB sounds like a real hammer!

Hunting optics, What do you use?

Leupold mostly. I do use some Weaver, Burris and Vortex optics as well though. I have several fixed power scopes still in regular use but have mostly switched to variables. I only have one turret dial scope and that is on the .264 Win Mag but am considering getting another for my .220 Swift.

Any plans for a new rifle in 2025?

I’m a sixth generation Oregonian. My father’s side of the family, a French-Canadian trapper homesteaded near my hometown before Oregon was even a state. I have very deep roots here. So believe me when I say that we have struggled with the idea of leaving our home behind to move to another...

Rifles that Need to be Hunted (or loads developed for) in 2025

Going to work up a 110 Accubond load for my Remington 700 .25-06 as its getting a new Douglas tube put on. Decided to go with it instead of the Roberts. My Ruger M77 .22-250 is going to give the 50 grain Hornady VMAX a try once the weather clears. What will or will not get to go hunting...

    30-06 O.A.C.L.’s

I would start with the book recommended OAL and go from there. Nosler’s OAL recommendations have been pretty close if not right on for me in pretty much every cartridge I have used their bullets with.

    .300 WSM….Is it a Dead Cartridge Commercially?

I used my fathers New Haven M70 in .300 WSM to take my elk last season. It worked very well. Being as I am starting to collect Model 70’s, I hope to end up with both it and the Push-feed .264 Win Mag a long, long time down the road when Dad doesn’t need them anymore. The .300 WSM is a fine...

    .25-20 WCF

Small game hunting is a very under appreciated endeavor. I was elk hunting with my father in law ten or so years back in Eastern Idaho. Fresh snow but not a single fresh elk track in the area. But there were cottontails everywhere. After trading my .30-06 for a .22 in the back seat of my pickup...

    A couple ole Mauser Builds

The 6.5x55 is the cooler version of the 6.5 Creedmoor! Nice work. My current only Mauser is a 98 sporter build by JP Sauer and Sohn that was rebored to .35 Whelen!

    New MS Rifle

We recently had a new Douglas tube threaded onto the .264, with a 1-8” twist. It shoots our 140 grain Accubond handloads with H4831 powder into 1/2-3/4” groups at 100 yards.

    270 Winchester

My experience with the .270 is somewhat limited compared to others here. You could say I’m late to the party as I’ve typically preferred the .30-06 and .25-06 cartridges. Like Don said, the .270 and 130’s go together like bread and butter. Try 4350 and/or 4831, with any good 130 grain bullet...

Ballistic Tip for Elk and Mule Deer - 30-06

Ditto the Accubonds. I have used them in my .30-06 extensively for deer, sheep and elk. They are all I use in the .30-06!! I have no doubt (and the experience of well seasoned hunters like Guy and Scotty back this up) that the BT’s will perform admirably at the distances you described.

    Sigh; who needs science

I would love to see the woods back in production. As always, emotionally triggered responses which shut the logging down has overcompensated to the point that now our forests are being managed by fire rather than logging. A waste frankly. Logging is no different than farming, it just takes...

    230 gr 45 ACP... 1000 fps?

Impressive to say the least. Those Ramshot powders have turned out well for me too, especially Enforcer which I use chiefly in my .357’s and .25-20! Depending on who you ask, the original blackpowder .45 Colt ammo brought a 255 grain cast lead bullet 950-1000 fps in the Colt SAAs with a 7.5”...

    Happy 308 Day

Call me crazy but I have always preferred the day/month/year system of dating to the month/day/year method. Happy .308 day! Like Guy, mine will probably get an affectionate pat or two. Am anxiously awaiting for June 30th personally. Or should I say 30/06 day!!

    .300 WSM….Is it a Dead Cartridge Commercially?

I wouldn’t say dead at all. Definitely not getting the limelight that it was 20 years ago but far from dead. Lots of ammo on the shelves hereabouts. I know of several of them (rifles that is) locally. Of the WSM lineup, it is far and away the most popular and with good reason. Now the 7mm WSM...

    Made my contribution.....

As Bob Dylan put it, the times they are a changin’. When I was a kid, the ranchers bought us .22 cartridges by the brick and were grateful to have us come shoot ground squirrels. These days they charge $250-300 per shooter, per day to come shoot the ground squirrels and the city dudes gladly...

Winchester Model 70 Classic Featherweight-280 Rem

That is a gorgeous gun! I don’t see it lasting too long, especially a New Haven M70. GLWS!
