Whitetail deer are small critters and a .243 is a fast bullet. I would sacrifice “bang-flop” for saving some meat. We prefer to head shoot our little Sitka black tail. Anything else does too much meat damage. Shoot whichever bullet is the most accurate.

I have an old RCBS that’s made by Ohaus and back it up with another RCBS that’s a little newer and cheaper. I’ve never used an electronic one but I would if that’s what I had.

Maple is more stable than walnut. I personally don’t like the look of it for a stock but it’s only personal preference. It’s better wood.

.308 is a fantastic cartridge that punches well above its weight - class. Good shooting.

Good info here. The throat also begins to erode starting with fired round #1. Some go quicker than others, depending on how much powder it’s burning in relationship to the bore diameter.
