My buddy in Maine had a really nice apple tree (with a fence around it) growing for a few years in the front yard. He took very good care of it and had gotten apples on a couple of occasions. As he does not live in Maine but in New York he drives up once a month and stays for two weeks at a...
When I first started out as a hunter at 16Yrs. of age I purchased a Marlin lever in .35Rem. The second rifle was a Browning A-Bolt in 30.06. 165 Grain Sierra Spitzer boat tails was the bullet used. That rifle took a ton of deer over the years and I still have it. My 1999 Maine moose also fell...
I laughed when I read that comment. Our Cell block was on the third floor and the prisoner had to take the elevator up. A good number of them tripped while getting into the elevator.
I lost a lot of my hearing in the Navy. I was the pointer (trigger puller) on a 3"X50 and I was told by the gunner's mate that my Sound powered earphones would protect my ears. And I actually believed him. I just couldn't understand why I couldn't hear for three days after having shot a number...
Reminds me of when I first moved to small town Florida back in 1992. 9000 people which really wasn't a lot in our size town. Two Traffic lights. A caution light on US1 where our main highway (two lane) met it. You could actually lay down on US1 in the summer and never worry about a vehicle...
A good friend of mine purchased his Competitor Arms single shot about a month after I had gotten mine and had ordered it in .300WM. Mine was in 30.06. With the muzzle brake mine was tolerable but the noise was ungodly and under a metal roof it was intolerable. We shot his .300Mag with 180 grain...
If you are shooting indoors make sure you have proper forced ventilation. When I was a range officer on the PD we had a brand new range built with air filters and other equipment that supposedly eliminated the need for ventilation going to the outside. We religiously kept the floor clean and...
Listening to the stories I think about all the hurricanes (and one tornado) I've been through over the past 34 years in Florida. In each and every one I lost power usually for 3-4 days till the ancient Florida Power and Light grid was repaired. I have a permanent spot in my garage for our...
Kayaking is a death wish down here. They sit so low to the water that anything can climb onto it. Two weeks ago we had a lady kayaking in one of our Fresh water springs with a group of people and they spotted a number of gators on the bank. They continued on passing the gators and one of the...
I have stuck with basically the lower power end of Riflescopes. A Zeiss 1.5X6 (clear as a bell) on my ,338RUM Elk Rifle. A 3X9 Kahles on my .300 Win Mag. A 2.5X8 Leupy on my 7X08. My longest shot at an Elk was 326 yards and the Zeiss at 6 power worked perfectly. A 1X4 Leupy firedot on my AR is...
Interesting. I used a totally different kind of weapon for a cottonmouth that was in a bad mood and coming at our canoe like it meant serious business. Canoeing in Florida is interesting as you have to respect Gators, snakes and other types of animals. I saw this cottonmouth approaching and...
Here I go again. I'm working on 59 years with the same woman who has hung with me through the highs and lows. As Guy knows working on a PD really puts a strain on the marriage. She stuck by me and I'm very thankful.
My long Range rig is a plain jane. My Remington 700 in .338RUM with a 26 inch factory barrel wears a McMillian stock and a 1.5 X 6 Zeiss Scope. The trigger is a Tubbs Custom (2 1/2 lbs). I've shot it with 225 grain Sierras and Partitions out to 600 yards. Average group is 3-4 inches off a rest...
It also came out that prior to the meeting with Trump and Vance Zalenski was talking with Democrats (he was caught talking to them) and I'm sure they screwed his head up pretty good prior to the Trump meeting. Now I see that Zalensky (by letter) agrees with Trump and wants to get back down to...
That's interesting. I've used a chrony on my P226 .357 Sig shooting Underwood 125 grain ammo. I'm getting just over 1500FPS. Other factory ammo comes in around 1350FPS. My handloads are coming in at around 1475FPS. I guess underwood knows how to work its magic.
I had an extra long magazine in my Christensen Arms .300 Mag and a short throat that allowed me basically no room other than about factory length. Really no room for moving the bullet around. I solved that problem with a good gunsmith. Now the throat gives me plenty of room and I start at .015...
