I have tried the 125 ballistic tips and 125 accubonds in a 308 and a 30-06. Groups out of both were outstanding!! I am saving some of the accubonds for when I finally get another 308. I regrettably sold the last one.
Brian I may need some help from someone else on here but I believe it is cup and core. Winchester does not really claim bonded or cup and core. We have used the XP in milk jug contest and have had cup and core separation.
Shot was about 50 yards. Entrance in the heart and recovered in right on the inside of the hide on opposite shoulder. Deer ran approximately 50-60 yards. Recovered bullet weight was 44 gr.
Thanks JD, I have been very proud of my son's shot placement and patience when taking the shot. He waited until the perfect angle / shot presented itself and it paid off.
This is the doe my son shot with his 243 using the deer season xp this past weekend. You can see the entry wound, the bullet was recovered in the offside shoulder. Great blood, deer went about 50 yards. Will be some great eating!
Would like to get some input on the question above. I have recently seen several deer shot with a 243 rifle. 9 deer to be exact over the last 3 seasons. Bullets used have been 100 gr Nosler partition, 100 gr sierra game king,95 gr Hornady SST and 95 gr Winchester deer season XP factory ammo. The...
Some very good information provided. Thank you all very much. This gives me plenty of info to ponder on over the next year. Currently leaning toward a brand new 7-08, start loads with the 120's and work to the 140/150's for elk later on.
How much does a muzzle brake actually reduce recoil? I have done some research on this and some say 20% etc. I would like to know a practical answer if possible. For example, putting a muzzle brake on a 7mm rem mag will make recoil feel like a 270 with a 130 gr bullet. I have never shot a rifle...
I can get 140 accubonds to fly 2939 fps with a max load of staball 6.5. I have been working on developing an elk load for the 7-08 in case my son gets drawn for a youth KY elk hunt. I would think that this load would be dynamite for elk and not to rough on the shoulder.
Buckbuster i used a max load of staball 6.5 for the 7-08. I had not had much luck with staball but I am learning that you have to pack the case to get the most out of it.
Hunt for the 243 I used 43 gr of H100V with winchester large rifle primer and winchester full length sized brass. Max load...
Went out to test out some loads this week. Several of you commented on my previous post about trying staball 6.5 in the 243 for my son's compact rifle. That was a terrible start for me so to try and save components I decided to give H100V a try. BOOM!! Shot 4 rounds. After the fouler I got a...
Joe I did not have any pressure signs. I have also found that IMR 4831 is very consistent in several different calibers. In fact my wife's 243 loves IMR 4831 with 95 gr SST's.
The first attempt with Staball did not go well. My velocity average was 2754 and the 4 shot group was 4.3 inches!!!! I think I am going to try the 100v. My son's rifle is a Rem 700 compact with 18 inch barrel so I know I am going to be lower than the velocities provided by Jim. Thank you for...
11 lbs of RL23 should have you set for a while. I bought 1 lb to try out a little while back and I am now half way through that jug. Finding more in these times will be very tough!
I am trying out staball 6.5 in my sons 243 with a 100 gr Partition to try and find a speedier load for upcoming deer season. Anyone else tried this powder out in 243?
I had 3 powders in mind to try; IMR 4451, Staball and Hybrid 100V (I have plenty of all 3). The reason I want to get a little...
