I have fallen in love with the 308. I bought a cheap black Friday edition savage axis 2 in 308 and once I started shooting it it was extremely accurate and appeared to have a super fast barrel. I typically get 75-100 fps faster velocities than book velocities out of this rifle which was a...
I have tried Grand in my Tikka 7MM Rem Mag. Grand has gotten my 24 inch barrel to shoot with velocities of a 26 inch barrel and it is has been very accurate in my rifle.
I have loaded for two 7-08's. A savage 110 and browning x bolt. Both rifles shoot great and are easy to load for. Both rifles like H4895, BL-C2, R17. I have gotten 120 gr Nosler ballistic tips with 43gr H4895 to surpass 3000fps and absolutely hammer deer. This year in my son's Browning 7-08 we...
I had to take my son to Academy this afternoon to go ahead and get some new baseball pants and cleats for this spring, the boy is growing like a weed!! Naturally, I slide over to the ammo / hunting section before we leave. Lo and behold I see multiple packs of 100 Winchester large rifle primers...
I have killed two whitetail bucks with a 308 using a 130gr TTSX going about 3150 at the muzzle. Bullet has performed flawlessly and with the energy provided I would think it would do the job on an elk.
My brother and I split an 8 lb jug a few years ago. I have been able to get slightly above average in my 6.5 creedmoor but very average accuracy in everything else I have tried it in. Velocity has been slightly above average in 6.5 creedmoor but very average in everything else. I will not buy...
I have decided to wok on "potential" elk loads for 3 different rifles that I own. My question is what would you elk hunters recommend on obtaining velocities with the bullets / rifle calibers listed below:
I know the more velocity the better but I am trying to learn a lot here and want to leave...
Was able to get this buck down Monday night. Rifle was cheap old savage axis 308 with Barnes 130gr TTSX. Shot was across a creek bottom. Bullet entered right in front of the onside shoulder and stopped in the hide of the off side shoulder. Buck dropped in his tracks. Retained weight 130.2 gr (I...
I have killed one deer with the 130gr Barnes TTSX and it ran about 15 yards. My 308 likes BL-C2, CFE 223 and TAC with the 130 TTSX. Good luck and happy hunting!
I have had excellent results in my cheap savage axis 308 with TAC, BL-C2 and CFE 223. I have I have used anything from 125gr to 165gr and all 3 powders have proven to be very accurate and very fast.
