Probably lawyers after all the publicity about their killer triggers, I know, my wife had one. When she chambered a round it went off and I accused her of pulling the trigger which she did not do. Never owned aRemington since.
RL17 works good in my wife's, Nosler max book load,43.5g, f210 primer, Hornady brass, 129g Nosler 129g LRAB, 2830fps with a 20 in barrel, 1/2 in groups.
Congratulations on some really fine bulls! I have been bow hunting elk in Oregon since 1984 but I am now too old, 71 to do serious hunting like you young guys are doing.
Longrange hunter, I don't clean primer pockets either, I quit doing it 25 or 30 years ago and never noticed any difference. I just load for hunting no competitive shooting.
Anyone who has shot or has seen shot a lot of elk knows that a marginal hit from a 338 will slow an elk down way more than one hit badly with a 243. The large frontal area does a lot more damage.
Truck driver, another great deer and elk bullet in 338 is a 200g BT, I know for a fact that they will shoot through a very large mule deer end to end at400 yds. A lot of people here on the OR coast use them for elk with great results.
They shoot real well in my 338, I am using RL-17, Win brass, f-215 primer. Perfect mushroom shot into wet alder all petals intact. barnes bullets shed their petals shot into the same wood. The E-tips will be a great elk bullet. These were 200g at 3050fps. I will use them on my next rifle elk hunt.
Salmon chaser, how long is your barrel. My wifes WBY Camilla with 44g of RL17 goes 2830fps with a 20 inch barrel. Federal brass F210 primer, 129g ABLR., oal 2.750. Shoots this load 1/2 inch or better.
I just looked at a new BLR Rocky mt. elk foundation rifle in .270 win. at my gun shop, he is asking $950, does anyone know if that is agood price? I also have a 30 year old BLR in .257 Roberts.
I don't really hunt coyotes but since we built our house in 2008 my wife a I have shot 34 in the back yard. All but 2 were with a Weatherby .17 HRM at ranges between 20 an 40 yards. It is very deadly at these ranges, bullet is 17g Hornady v max.
Any of those powders will get you there, I'm running mine between 2850 and 2900 with 24 inch barrel. RL 17 will not be heavily compressed like the other powders. I have a Wby markv action so I have plenty of magazine length and .100 throat if I Need to seat the bullets long.
