range day... at least until the thunderstorms hit. I had to revisit the 200gr NAB after reading some of the recent posts. these are the only 2 loads from today that shot OK. I'm still not impressed with the velocity but I'll take what I can get. I didn't get to shoot any of my 225 NABs before...
I figured the light powder charges were due to seating that long bullet to factory like COLs.
I can go over max with powders like varget but can't get to max with 8208. I can't seem to stuff enough RL15 into a case to get to max loads.
hornady makes great pistol dies. I have a few of their rifle dies. the short action are pretty good. the long action arent so great. they seem to need more lube and more muscle. I really like redding for long shells. I've also had good luck with RCBS in short calibers.

finally had a chance to shoot some tests today with RL15. every combo I tried today shot under 2 inches with several under 1.2. the RL15 seems to shoot everthing better in this rifle. I was disappointed with velocities. my best group came with 58.5 grains, RP brass, and 200gr cor lokt. speed was...
I didn't really buy this thing to be a shooter. our primative weapon law says single shot, exposed hammer, .358 or larger bullet. If I can find a hunting load that I like. it will only see 15-20 rounds a year. ...but I want to be confident with it out to 200 or so.
if I had just decided to...
I have a batch of 225 accubonds on the way. I'll back the sizing die out to make it barely touch the plate. ...and I'll hit bps in the morning and get a bottle of RL15. if work will stay out of my way, I may have a batch of RL15 loads on the range by 14:00.
I thought about that. I have it set so it cams with a light snap when the sizing die hits the ram. thats how I have set my hornady dies. I am using redding for the whelen. it could be a little different. with my bolt guns I usually set the die just deep enough for the bolt to start closing...
the IMR 4895 shoots a lot like varget: same speeds 1.2" or so groups.
the cor lokt have been the best bullet but for whatever reason all my loads have been better through RP brass vs hornady. federal 210m primers have ben the best I've tried. I haven't shot the hornady SP with 8208 and RP...
I fired these today. I check every piece of brass after every shot when I'm load testing. it gives me something to do while waiting for the barrel to cool. I noticed some light rings around the heads of a few cases. when I got home, I deprimed these and noticed the primers were a bit flattened...
