Thanks for the advice, I will check my records for the Kimber and see what loads I have already worked up and test some 165 accubonds in it.
Guy I also thought about grabbing my 25-06 but lean toward the heavier bullet in the 30 cal.
JD338, The Kimber wears a Leupold Vari-X-III 2.5x8x32 on it, I...
I have not drawn my bighorn sheep tag here in Co ...YET, but I am close and maybe this is the year.
I have a choice between using a light weight, Kimber Montana in 308 or a "regular" weight rifle in 30-06 or 300 Weatherby.
So which would you do? Save the weight for the up & downs of the daily...
Beautiful area. I bought a bear tag for the first time here in CO, don't really know how to go about it, figure if I get lucky I will bump into one as the season overlaps the elk season.
Yup, staying in top shape will be a key. I drew in S-3 Mt Evans area after 12 years. Thank to all who provided ideas. I plan on using a 308 Kimber Montana w a Leupold 2x8.
Off I go Friday morning to WY to antelope hunt once again. This time I am using my 25-06 (Ruger action schillen barrel) with Nosler 115 grain Ballistic tips and 49 grains of IMR 4350. They shoot 1/2 inch at 100 yards out of my rifle. Two doe tags with permission to hunt on one of WY's Private...
I have been loading for a 300 Weatherby and not getting great results. So I decided to buy some factory ammo to see what the fps is and the OAL etc. The Weatherby factory load I bought, made by Norma, the 180 grain Accubond has a cannelure groove, the accubond bullets I buy do not have this...

My roberts load is IMR 3031 33.5 gr with the Nosler Ballistic tip 115 grains, Federal 210 primers and new Winchester brass. The book says this is 2600 FPS. My "old" load in my 25-06 is IMR 4350 51.5 grains using the 100 grain Nosler Baliistic tip, going 3350 fps. So the differnce of 15...
I had a couple of tags for a herd reduction hunt this past weekend, and was looking forward to trying out my new load. Last year I used a 25-06 with 100 grain Nosler Ballistic tips for antelope, worked great but a little to quick in expansion. This year I am using a 257 Roberts with 110 grain...
Yes, I measured the twist at 1 in 12 as this rifle is a 1961 German Weatherby, the early ones had this twist, Weatherby changed to 1 in 10 in the late 60is.
In the most recent edition of Shooting Times, there is a article on Partition bullets. In that article is a picture of a Ballistic Tip bullet and an Accubond (page 65). Other than the color of the tip, I can not see any differences. Can someone tell me the simple facts of how they differ?
Thanks.
I am loading a 308, using a load in the Nosler book for IMR4350 and the 180gr Partition. this load shows it is 107% compressed. What tips or techniques do I use in loading a copressed laod? Any ideas and feedback is appricated. I am trying to duplicate a load from a Federal factory load at...
I decided to use the 220 grain partition. It seemed to be much more consitant on the follow up targets I shot. Wish me luck I need to find a big bull to test it on now!

I agree, I shot a buck mulie (big one) at 55 yards with a 100 gr ballistic tip in a 25-06. It just blew up on the hide and fat layer.
I am going to use a 220 gr Partition in my 300 Weatherby, 70.5gr of IMR4350 going +/-2770 fps. Can anyone give me the flight trajectory, where I should be at 100, to be dead on at 200 and what the drop would be to 300 and 400 yards? Thanks.
