    Forbes rifles

I have an 24" ER Shaw barrel on a 280 Rem. The rifle is super, nothing less. I'll stand by the Shaw barrels and get another one if I build another custom rifle. How can someone tell if one barrel manufacturer is better an another one?

    reloader 19 in 280 rem.

Load work ups in a 280 Rem (bolt action) with 59gn of RL-19 and a 150gn Sierra Game King got me 3042-3055 fps over a chronograph and a great 200 yard zero. The most accurate load from 280 with that bullet was from 57gn of Superformance. It took a white tail buck earlier this month with one shot.

In praise of the 7mm 120gr Nos. BT

I lucked into a 280 Rem that is both a great long-range shooter and a very easy rifle to handle. The rifle is big, but the weight helps make the mild kicking cartridge even more accurate. I nailed a white tail buck this year with a shot into the boiler room. He was long dead before I got to him...

Accuracy and Velocity Loading 160 gr Accubonds for .280 Rem

Elkeater: Nosler's 7th edition reloading manual has the hottest / fastest 280 Rem loads I've seen. I've exceeded the loads in that book by 2 to 2.5gn and had no signs of overpressure. I am using a Mauser 98 action and a 24" barrel.

Accuracy and Velocity Loading 160 gr Accubonds for .280 Rem

My 280 Rem with 58gn of RL-19 and 160gn Partitions averaged 2975fps muzzle velocity with bullet holes touching @ 100yds. Supreme 780 and the 160 PTs shot OK, but the RL-19 was better. Win large primers were used with both loads.

Shot the 264WM and 280 Rem today.

That 280 looks great. If you can, try the 140 and 150gn Sierra Game Kings with it. My 280 loves them.

    "Best" .270 bullet

For a heavy animal like elk or moose, I would go for a heavy for caliber Partition or Swift A-Frame. For the rest of North American game, the TSX / TTSX family, an Accubond, an Interbond or a Scirocco II would be tough enough for anything but the big bears. Deer don't need a super tough bullet...

22-250 build beginning barrel twist for 55-60 gn bullets

Hornady lists their 55gn bullets needing 1:14 twist or faster to be stabilized. I wouldn't expect a heavier bullet to be stabilized in a barrel less than 1"14 twist.

    elevation

Several months ago Craig Boddington wrote a great article in Rifle Shooter Magazine. http://www.rifleshootermag.com/2013/09/ ... ct-rifles/ Boddington's words are summarized below. For every 20 degrees Fahrenheit cooler than the difference of the temperature at which you zeroed, expect a...

22-250 build beginning barrel twist for 55-60 gn bullets

I went with a 1:8 twist so I can use the 70gn Barnes and 75gn Swift bullets. If you use the 1:10 you ought to be OK with up to 60gn bullets.

Forming 7mm-08; better to neck up or down?

I haven't necked up much, but it seems to be easy on the necks if you lubricate them and go in small increase possible. Taking GI 30-06 up to .366 for a 9.3mm Mauser was easy. Use a .323 cal / 8mm expander ball, then a .358 and finally the full-length 9.3x62mm Mauser die. About 1mm of brass...

    .257 Weatherby factory ammo, velocity?

    1. Your not going to surpass factory velocities with handloads. 2. Feb 215 primer with max load of H-4350 will crank 3450fps with 100gn Barnes TSXs in a 24" Vanguard. It is the most accurate load in my 257 Roy. 3. The same load ought to make 3500fps in a 26" barrel. 4. 120gn Partition with...

    Superperformance

Superformance is a great powder. I use it in my 280 Rem with amazing long-range accuracy. With hot loads it puts the 150 and 160 grain bullets where I want them.

    QL 9.3X62

SBJ358: the 9.3 is a bedded VZ-24 rebarrelled with a 24" ER Shaw heavy magnum contour barrel, a Timney trigger, a Boyds green/brown laminate varmint stock thumbhole and a big, sweet muzzle break. The "push" from this is basically like that of a 20 gauge shotgun with a good recoil pad. All the...

    QL 9.3X62

My 9.3x62mm Mauser shoots 270gn Speer HotCor bullets @ 2340fps with 63gn of H-4350. That load is sub-MOA @ 100yds, which is way more accurate than what is needed for elk or moose. H-414 did well also with 286gn Hornady Interlocks, but those bullets aren't in production for now so I'm leaning on...

    Match Chambers vs. Standard Chambers

In most cases, the match chambered rifle will out-shoot the standard chamber because their match chamber will giv greater consistency----and what match shooter doesn't want something consistent it can be had without the shooter having to change something?

what new short action rifle ?

A bit over a year ago I found a used, but new-looking walnut stocked Model 70 Featherweight in 270 WSM. As I swung it, it felt and moved great. The stock fit was better than most of the rifles I have. The balance of it all was nearly perfect. I had no need or desire for a 270 WSM, but I think...

    Sorting Loaded Round By Weight

I have done this also but the problem I found was it takes a long time and if all the rounds aren't fired at or near the same time then there are unused rounds along with used brass that grouped OK or exceptionally well. Reload the ones that shot well, or go on and find out what your others...
