Another thing that I've done that suits me pretty well is this.
I shoot and reload for a lot of 3006 rifle... I wanted a procedure to resize and clean in a very easy way...yet maintain excellent runnout.
I bought a cheap RGB die set.... then I ground off the expander ball leaving the primer...
The design of the Lee collet die is both ingenious but very simple it will not correct a neck that has been pulled off center by another die. The tolerances of the inside of the body of the die is pretty loose and all it does is squeeze the case neck to a mandrel. If the case neck is off...
I'm another collet die and redding body die lover.
There's a couple of tricks you can use the collet die for.... if you have pulled bullets on brass you can take the mandrel out of the collet die n very carefully set it to size the neck down without even taking the powder out of the case...
A little lemi shine dish powder really boosted my ultrasonic cleaner and I've heard that people sprinkle a little bit of it into their wet solution for the stainless pin cleaning also....it's got some citric acid in it. And, if you don't like it it works darn good in your dishwasher too....lol!
I also have a 730 waters w/2-7 x
A 4570 w/2.5x
A 357 w/reddot.....they are all fun and extremely accurate.
This 3030 I figure on leaving w/open sights...at least for now....!
Once you get one it's hard to stop!
That is very typical of how they're cutting Factory Chambers today..... if I had to venture a guess I would say the factories know there's lots of guys out there reloading and so they give us a lot of room for the stupid people who might not trim.
If time = money those inserts are worth their wt...
Looking for input.
Research says 30.0 re7 under a 125 bt might be a great place to start.
I4198 looks like a winner too.....might need the fast burn for the 10" barrel.
Once I get a hunting load dialed in might want some slow, gentle plinker loads.
Wondering if gentle loads might work with neck...
I will admit I'm not an expert annealer but I have done some of it. I don't use Templilac.... But I don't get the necks red hot or get that silver look to them.... I chuck my shells in a lee Universal holder and spin them in a drill an use the count method. My goal is the lapua look with a...
I think there is probably more going on during seating that a lot of people realize and it really gets magnified if you don't have an exact match of your seating stem to your bullet profile.....as well as unexplained gremlins we run into.
I use a lot of Lee collet dies which leave the brass...
I think I got my story confused with the blunt tip partition vrs regular partition!
That said I do have some 165 Bts and 168 Bts on hand and I just put them in my Sinclair 308 comparator.
Visually the 168 definitely looks more streamlined.
What I found through actual measurement is the shank...
I'll add my experiences.....
I agree about how annealed brass is easier and smoother to trim and it has less neck tension after seating.
I also find it somewhat difficult to keep straight if you are using an expander ball and it can even be taken offline pretty easy during seating.
I use the...
That's pretty cool and certainly should be effective Bill...... but for guys like me who don't have the experience or tools to make those nice straight cuts I'm going to have to Fork out the whopping $6.95....lol.
Well...I may back my limit down to .010. I ALWAYS check my shoulder bump when reloading via the Hornady tool. I realize case expansion via belted magnum cases can be interesting.... I've seen virgin belted mag brass blow shoulders forward over twenty thousands of an inch on the first firing...
Another thought......"if" cases were to stretch out immensely and come in contact with the end of the chamber wouldn't they remain in that state after firing? they certainly couldn't contract afterwards.....so.... if we check our case length after firing and it's nowhere near our total chamber...
Well.... that got my interest up and I know I have the original cards that came in the bags that the inserts came in so I just went and checked them and it says none of this. And that whole idea pretty much shoots the virtue of the insert pretty much down the tubes and makes the video look...
Well tackdriver now that you know you're real trim length you wont have to be trimming a whole lot!!....lol.
Your mission done been accomplished........ and you can keep reusing that insert on a whole bunch of other cases..... I think my 30 caliber insert does duty on about 10 different cases...
