I feel you can do it a couple of ways. First of all by doing the minimum shoulder bump when you resize....I shoot for. 002.
And.... I think it helps not pulling in expander ball up through the case neck when you are done sizing. With the lee collet die I can often skip A FL resizing every...
Just for curiosity I just spend some time looking in some guns that have been fired a quite a bit that have generous trim lengths with my lyman borescope.... I was curious if I would see some excessive carbon buildup in the Gap area....the answer is NO.
My normal cleaning regimen is Wipeout bore...
What you have is a very typical Factory chamber.....Here's my guns.....
Rem factory vtr.....2.040 actual trim
Sons Browning 2.047
My Savage Le 308 2.042
My 308 bar Browning 2.040
I have not had any problems starting with Factory virgin brass that would be close to trim length or by trimming...
Once I determine my guns new and accurate trim length I can technically let my brass grow to up to .005 of that length before trimming. What really happens in real life is brass never grows identically the same amongst all your pieces of brass...so lets say I have a batch of 20 hunting brass...
I've used the Sinclair inserts for a number of years and I'm not sure what you guys are talking about as far as the .024" goes.
I do however deduct about .005 just to make up for variations in headspace and closeness of measurement.
I have never seen a factory rifle that doesn't have at least...
Good report let us know how you like it as you shoot some more.
I've got a number of different shooting bags and a crank up front rest.
I keep coming back to my older but little bit heavier Duty LED sled that I shoot without any weights on it.
I shoot it on a pretty smooth top bench that...
The 150 partition should be just fine for a wolf and medium black bear.... Anything bigger than medium in a black bear I would want a 180. Leave the 168 hpbt for paperpunching.
Do you use a hand primer? I got my first one many many years ago and I really like how much feedback I get from it as I seat the primers versus The Press. It might be possible there was a mismatch in the fit or a defect in the primer pocket of the brass...or...any chance your scale hung up or...
And...be a little careful of Varget with quickload....my actual chrono results are almost always a little hotter than what quickload thinks they're going to be..... it could just be a lot to lot variation but be a little conservative.
It looks to me like you got a pretty darn good shooting consistent gun! If it were me I would keep working towards a Max load at .5 grains increment and see if not only the group stay tight but they stay in approximately the same point of impact on the target. And if you can do this shooting...
I guess I better get with it and get one of those little crow trimmers on order for my 308 size cases and the 3006.
In general I probably trim more to make sure the case mouths are square than I do for the purpose of trimming.
I have the Sinclair inserts shown in the video here for almost every...
I actually respect a company that at least tries to protect its retail dealer organization. Lord knows the mom and pop gun shops across the country that stock Hornady products have plenty of competition from internet sales. It's just an ordinary 225 cup and core bullet and I don't quite get...
