    Gone and done it again!

Its a complicated procedure in which you have to apply giving personal many details, stae a ‘good reason’ for requiring each and every calibre required, having a person who either owns land or owns the shooting rights on a parcel of land declare in writing you have permission to shoot ‘any...

    Meopta Meopro....Zeiss Conquest?

Mike, S&B have always been cheaper than Swarovski here. Some of the new Swaro’s are hugely expensive. A Z8i 2.5-12 x 50 is around £2,250 and that’s serious dosh! And, I’d bet most if not all the time, the magnification will be set at 8x Now I don’t see what additional advantage that gives...

    Gone and done it again!

In due time I’ll get stuck into some load testing and I’m really looking forward to doing it and will be checking out a few decent propellants & bullets. I’ll likely be using Norma brass as it’s easily available here. Right mow I’m hopping up and down wishing the police would get on and issue...

    Meopta Meopro....Zeiss Conquest?

Hmmm interesting that Meopta produced for Zeiss. I didn’t know that. I hear that Zeiss are pulling out of scope manufacturing but no idea how true that may be. I do know their back up service in UK is the pits and not even close to Swaro or S&B For the future it looks like Meopta will be the...

Thanks for that QL data DrMike & yup, Polaris, I’ve seen the Viht. data, but not Norma. Norma propellants are difficult to find on shelves regularly in the UK. Cheers.

Alliant don’t appear to list R26 with data for 6.5x55SE on their website though?

    6mm or 25-06??

Even tho’ you can only shoot one at a time, if I lived in the US with your freedom to acquire firearms at will, I’d definitely have both Fotis. But I saw a 6.5x47Lapua mentioned & that truly is awesome on deer with the 129gn SST.

    Gone and done it again!

Thanks Scotty, yes we can get R26 here, - I’ve just been an old stick in the mud with my .25-06. The load I have for it works a treat so I haven’t changed it. The Swede is completely new to me tho’, even though I have done some loads for friends, really it’s been with propellants they had like...

    Gone and done it again!

Thanks boys. I went over to my dealer this morning to unwrap it and was very satisfied with what I’ve bought. The wood is pretty tidy and not knocked about, but with just a little ‘history’ showing. The trigger is a ‘single/set’ type and seems just fine. The blueing is all intact and the bore is...

    The 25-06 rox!

Impressive - I think my 22" would give away approx 60ft, but would still get up there.

    rifle scopes, old v new

Four good Friends have recently spent an arm and most of a leg on the very very good Swarovski Z8i scopes. And I have to admit, they are very good indeed, even though one of the scopes belonging to one of these guys has a defect. It must have a defect because he has shot several of the wrong sex...

    The 25-06 rox!

Getting those MV’s - What barrel length do you have on your .25-06 Scotty?

    The 25-06 rox!

Ha, so true Guy and back in the early 1900’s the little Mannlicher Schoenauer 6.5x54 accounted for so much in the way of deer and even African dangerous game, so the .25-06 with it’s much greater MV and flat trajectory can do so much more at even greater range when required. (y)

Best bolt action military rifle of all time?

    (y) I’d go with this all day long and used to have a M1903 stutzen 6.5x54MSch. Stupidly sold it and now have a M1903 MSch Takedown version, currently being re-barrelled with Krieger as the original is completely shot out and useless. But, the rest of the rifle is absolutely immaculate. Action...

    Gone and done it again!

Ho hum, I haven’t seen it yet as it just arrived at my dealers store yesterday, but I just bought what looks like a real nice Steyr Mannlicher Classic stutzen in 6.5x55 SE (Swede). Looks like this smoothie has been really well maintained and I understand it’s from the early 2000’s era...

    The 25-06 rox!

    (y) Well lads, I think you know I love my .25-06 and get 3120fps with the 110gn AB/IMR4831. Runs like a sewing machine that combo. And, I have taken several 300+ lb red deer stags with it. But, for fun I really should look at some of these other propellants of which you speak, but I do wonder...

    Loading on the lands...

Finding max oal to the lands is a good piece of info to have, but as above, the Nosler AB does indeed like a good jump and in my rifle this is .040” However, there are often more than one accuracy nodes to be found with a cartridge/barrel, so having determined max oal, it may well be best to...

    Die choices....help.

I’m definitely with Elkman on much of this. Yes, I do load using my best practice technique. I F/L resize with RCBS dies set to my cartridge headspace dimension and achieve better than 1/4” MOA @ 100yds .. but in the field when you’re hunting in less than ideal ‘range’ shooting conditions, in...

    Die choices....help.

Very often the decent inexpensive dies such as RCBS standard dies will give excellent results, but, its more a question of how well/accurately dies are set up, as well as brass preparation, that will determine the standard or quality of results achieved. Also, care taken and accuracy of your...

    25-06 Load'n

    (y) spot on, the way a hunter does it. Field craft and bringing home the venison is what hunting is about. I’ve accounted for hundreds of red deer stags & hinds, fox & feral goat over the years with my .25-06. An excellent cartridge that’s versatile and performs well with a range of bullets.
