Joe, on the nitroexpress mannlicher website, page 2, a chap called RisingBite, Mike Holland, in Brisbane, Australia has a GK 8x68 with a Hensoldt scope...might be worth checking out with him scoping your rifle.
You’ll also find him on the Facebook page as Hike Molland. There are a couple of pics...
As a newcomer to the .25-06, I’ve only had mine for sixteen years, but have now taken hundreds of red stags & hinds, roe deer, feral goats and fox using both 100gn Sierra Prohunter and 110gn Accubond bullets.
It’s a brilliant cartridge for taking all quarry in the UK.
Never fails at the task, or...
(y) Lovely rifle and a super cartridge/calibre..I'm very envious  .
I have two M1903 Mannlicher Schoenauer's, one a Takedown model built in 1922 that I just had re-barrelled with a Krieger match barrel, in the original 6.5x54MSch, the other a 1936 proofed stutzen also M1903 in 6.5x54...
Indeed they do, but finding any on the dealers shelves in the UK is like tracking down rocking horse poo. They just don’t bring them in.
So In my 25-06 I use the Nosler AB. They are good and reliable.
That’s such a shame.
I have two....one, a beaten up stutzen, the other, a ‘Takedown’ being re-barrelled just now.
Both are 6.5x54 MSch. Wonderful kipplauf’s. (y) I use the Hornady 160gn RN bullet.
... out of favour with modern day shooter?
Is that so,
or is it just that for smaller calibre rifles, .243, .257, .264 so few choices are available.
In 6.5/.264 cal. I can only find 160gn RN bullets. Nothing in 120, 130 or 140gn range in .243 very little choice & .257 nothing at all...
If your RCBS hammer broke, RCBS will mail you a replacement...just email them.
I told them mine broke & I immediately received a reply telling me they’d send a replacement.
It duly arrived (y) (y) (y) great service.
However, definitely a collet bullet puller is best IMO.
Cheers.
Without doubt the Wilson seating die yields least run out when bullet seating, but requires an arbor press. Not too expensive, but does work.
You have to be sure your case neck/case body run out is low too for consistently low run out on the finished cartridge, so your sizing die needs to be set...
If it's any help Boomer68 I can supply info on my own load for my Steyr Classic Stutzen 6.5x55SE
Load data:
Cases Norma F/L sized & trimmed 2.156"
Fired case Headspace in my rifle: 1.771"
Primer: CCI 200
Powder: IMR4350 x 45.8gns
Bullet: Hornady 123gn SST #26173 .. Crimped LFC die.
Nominal...
Mainly, a lighter weight bullet will develop to a somewhat larger propellant chargeweight than a heavier bullet.
So, the start weight charge fot the 200gn bullet will easily also accomodate your 180gn bullet.
Cheers.
Absolutely DrMike, all the decent presses will indeed virtually last for ever.
In fact apart from Lee presses which do the job, but break easier than the rest, I’ve never ever come across any press being worn out.
They will all make decent ammunition but it’s always the operator that decides how...
Ha yes, I definitely should. Next weekend I’m off to Scotland looking for a roe buck, so I’ll take it with me. It does shoot so well and ok to carry. (y) Pic attached.
I have a Steyr Mannlicher Classic stutzen in 6.5x55 SE and been doing some testing since I bought it last year.
Currently I have regular 1/2"-3/4" groups at the range with the load I use. That's using a rest of course, but it makes me smile.
I'm using the Hornady 123gn SST bullet and...
Nice presses Guy, I really like that Hart arbor press and the Lyman turret press looks really cool too..
I'm still using my 30 year old Rockchukker (Works perfectly) for everything except some specific bullet seating that I use my Harrell (Basic but works fine) arbor press for.
I experienced the same issue across three boxes of 110gn .257 AB’s around two years ago.
I contacted Nosler about the problem & gave them the box serial numbers.
They told me they’d been made around four years earlier.
There wasn’t any corrosion, just broken tips...approx 15% of each box ....
I...
