I have never hunted with this bullet, hope it is a performer, I won an auction for like 500 of them and figured what the heck... Anyone used them before?
165gr Federal Trophy Bonded Tip
I made it to the range today and decided to drag along a 30 Nosler I built a couple years ago. I had never worked a load and had only shot it once to check function after building it. I had lost interest in it after building my 26 Nosler as the 26 was so fast and accurate. I worked through some...
I looked all over for a suitable brake for my 22 Creedmoor with 5/8-24 threads. I also wanted ported holes and it just was not to be had, or at least I could not find one I liked. I decided to make my own. Should work nicely, I made it out of stainless to the same diameter as my barrel. I made 6...
CORRECT!
I DO NOT recommend it as a sole source of reloading data! It is a tool to experiment with, the simpler you keep the questions the better the answers seem to be but it is not to be used exclusively for reloading data, just a reference.
My friends I thought I would share a FREE tool I have been using to help gather load data. While I do not recommend it as your ONLY source it is helpful in working up loads. ChatGTP is in my opinion amazing at helping me figure out all the uncommon loading I do. While I have and use Quick Load I...
I am .030 off the lands, ZERO pressure signs on the head or anywhere else at 81grs, the primers even look great. I was impressed with these bullets and how easy they were to work. If I had time I am positive I could squeeze the group down in the 2s or 3s but as it is a hunting rifle no need to...
Hey Mark, Today went very well. I worked from 74 to 82 grains letting the rifle cool in the truck AC between strings. I found mild signs of pressure at 82grs of N570 (tight bolt lift), backed off and shot a group with the 81gr loads, 1/2 MOA! As this is a deer rifle that is perfect and will be...
Tomorrow I am going to try the 175gr Maker T-Rexx copper bullet in my 28 Nosler. There is no load data for this anywhere. I used Hammer and Barnes data along with QL data and came up with N570 at a starting load of 74gr. I loaded a string from 74 to 82 in one grain increments. Anyone see this as...
Yeah I haver QL was hoping for something more tried and true but I will manage, problem with 28 Nosler is it gets so hot so quick and makes working up loads take forever. Three shots then it has to cool back to norm. Also seems like after 20 rounds it has to be cleaned, builds carbon that has to...
I recently came into a Marlin MR7 in .270 the owner could never get it to group and we did some trading. The rifle is mostly a Winchester 70 with a Remington style barrel and a Ruger bolt handle. As I have no interest in .270 I decided to build it in 30-06. After tearing it apart I quickly...
Yeah it is my favorite caliber, accurate and lethal on deer or paper. If there is a "perfect" cartridge this would be my pick. It is not the barrel burner people claim, heck it doesn't even reach 3000fps with a 142gr bullet, If memory serves my pet load of 52gr of N165 behind a 143gr Bondstrike...
I spent this weekend putting this together
Action - Mauser 98 Bruno
Stock -Parker Hale
Barrel - Krieger heavy 1:8 twist
I chambered it in 6.5-284 using a custom reamer with a .294 neck
I added a side safety Timney trigger adjusted to a clean 1lbs
I topped it off with a 6-24x50 Arken Scope...
I have been a fan of the 6.5x55 for 30 years. Chambered in modern actions, with higher modern pressure loads, it really performs. The new Staball 6.5 powder really has made it shine for me. I have a couple built on commercial actions that hold their own with 6.5-284 Norma!
Finished up two old Mauser project builds today, no worries I would never tear apart war guns, these were just parts and pieces I have had laying around and a couple ole actions from a bygone era of my building rifles.
The first one is in 6.5x55 Swede
Built on a M98 Styer action
Krieger 1:8...
I spent most of today working on improvements. I created a whole new die and it works even better than the previous.
Added a cutout so it now goes over the belt.
Added a taper
Make the sizer a little tighter
High polished the sizing area inside the die
Pictures of the new design below
Yes, but there is a qualification, All these Belted Magnum cases are based on the 375 H&H case, so one die covers them all. For this to work on NON belted cases they would have to be made individually and case specific due to the multitude of different size cases in the world. In theory one die...
