IN MARCH - 340 Weatherby Magnum

If you are not going to put a muzzle break on that monster go with a scope with lots of eye relief. Mine came back against my forehead way too many times and always drew blood! That round can be loaded to some real good ballistics with the 225 AB. I had a W. German Mark V and the stock trigger...

    Leupold CDS

The VX3's have 2 springs to hold the adjustment, instead of just one, and are supposed to track better than the VXIII or older scopes. Did you get the CDS with your new VX3?

    Leupold CDS

I believe the CDS can only be installed on the new VX3. I bought a new 4.5-14x40 VX3 and will probably have this installed. Hopefully it will work well, I was kind of waiting for someone else to report on it.

    horrible groups again (308 win)

I agree, but never ever use red loc-tite or you might never be able to remove it in the future! I use blue, but there is one made just for guns!

    Mornings Yote Hunt

Powerstroke, It's great to have a kid that likes this kind of thing. Most kids, now days, would rather stay home and play computer games! My granddaughter is hitting my son and I up to elk hunt this next year, sometimes things just go right!

    Hunting bullet ?

I have a 30-06 in the model 70 featherweight and shoot the 150 BT at 3000 fps and it's a real pussycat on recoil. The secret is the soft recoil pad! With the stock pad and a 180 load it would make you wonder if it was even worth keeping around because of the kick!

    got my first cow elk

I can still remeber my first elk, I ran up to it and grabbed a hind leg to pull it around to gut it. Guess what, I couldn't move it! They are a big animal and great eating. Congrats on your first!

    .300 Savage Shooters

RL-15 is the best in my EG. It gives more velocity and better accuracy than any other in mine with 165 grain bullets.

    E-Tip Reloading

boomer68 You might try RL-25, that's what my model 70 likes best for groups in the 180 and above bullets. My brother in law also has a Model 70 300 Wby and his likes RL-25 in the 200 grainers. The recoil of the 7828SSC was way more than the rl-25 and the fps wasn't really any better for the...

    Thanksgiving coyote

Looking at that coyote reminds me of my old 300 Wby with 150 BT's at 3500 fps. I shot a couple cougars at 400 yards in the head and there was no head left! Then I got a 75 yard shot at a little buck and that coyote hole looks just like the buck hole! I'm thinking I overdid the velocity just a...

    700 Remington Problems

I forgot about Savage and Weatherby! I have a new (last Year) Savage in 22-250 and it shoots well!

    700 Remington Problems

I don't think they glue the bolt handles on, at least they used to braze them on. I have liked the 700 since 1965 when I bought my first 30-06, but you can screw up anything by cutting corners in the quest to save a buck! I understand that Remington was on the verge on bankruptcy when they were...

    700 Remington Problems

I also have several model 700's, but they are older rifles. I am wondering if Remington might have quality issues now that they have been bought out. As far as the Sako extractor goes, I read where a case fails it will make a missle out of this where the case head will no longer be surrounded...

    700 Remington Problems

I have had several complaints from people with 300 RUM's in the 700 that fail to extract the shells. I haven't examined any yet, but was thinking maybe debris in the boltface or bent, damaged extractor. Anyone else having these problems? Just the 300 RUM's.

Should have used a Ballistic TIp factory ammo woes

I won a 30-06 in a big bull elk contest some years ago, a Model 70 Featherweight and took to loading 150 BT's in it. I have never had a deer do anything but drop straight down when hit with this load! The recoil is almost non existent, it is accurate and it puts them down right now! It also does...

    Hearing Protection

What do you use to protect yourself while hunting with a muzzle break on your rifle? Do you think you are losing hearing from use of the break?

    7 mag help

I can't imagine the 25-06 being a quicker killer over the 7 mag if the proper bullet is selected for the job. I used the 7 for years on everything and never had anything run off with a good hit. at that time the 154 gr Hornady was my best deer bullet and the 175 Hornady was my go to elk bullet...

    300 WSM or 300 RUM

I just returned from a week long elk hunt and will tell you that every ounce of weight I had to pack was really significant! I limit my shots to 500 yards because of too many factors like wind can create problems. I used a 300 Wby with 180 AB's at 3250 and did kill my elk, but my next rifle will...

    quartering game...

I hunt in places that you can't drive so I will quarter the animal, but the rib cage gets boned out! Once you have boned out the rib cage you'll never pack meat any other way if it's any distance! Does anyone know what a bull elks rib cage weighs boned out? It's heavy!

shot my new 270 wsm today

One thing you must take into consideration is the terrain you hunt. If it's flat land you can get away with 3 inches high at 100, while if your hunt is in steep ground that you may shoot at steep angles, up or down, you will need to sight in lower. I missed a great buck from shooting steeply...
