Such a good cartridge the old 6mm Remington. Mine seems to shoot almost all bullet weights very accurately. I have found RL22 works really nicely with the 95-100 grain bullets too.
I was using RL22 with the 150 Nosler ballistic tip in my 7RM. A fantastic bullet and has never let me down. RL22 on the other hand is as rare as hens teeth in Australia now...as are all alliant powders.
I have been using the hornady 150 eldx in my 280ai for range and hunting. It has proven to be highly effective on red deer doing a complete pass through on shoulder shots at ranges from 75 to slightly more than 400 yards. It is also nice and accurate, good BC and I like to practice with what I...
I have a couple of packs or 162eldx waiting for the chance to get in the 7mmRM. I have been using the 150 Nosler ballistic tip with a lot of success over RL22. Thanks for posting your load as I have a good supply of H1000 so seems like I am all out of excuses right now. Time to get busy at the...
Thank you for the Hornady data, much appreciated. I wondered whether the load data was more max for the copper bullet?
The ADI load data for the Hornady 139 grain projectile had a max load of 43.5 grains of varget running pressures at 50,000cup with the saami spec running 52,000cup.
I just...
Hi Guys,
I finally got my 7mm08 barrel threaded onto my rifle and finally got around to shooting it. Seems to go pretty nicely through the tedious run in process.
I have been using Hornady 139sst in Norma brass. Two loads stood out, 42.5 and 44 grains of Varget (AR2208 as we know it here)...
I think I will start doing that because I have difficulty with sticky bolt lift and chambering occassionally and I think it is more a result of the neck-sizing than being related to overpressure issues.
Just wondering whether they are two separate issues? Perhaps the chambering issue is more...
Poor old 25 calibres hasn't had much love in the last decade or so. If I owned a 25/06, probably wouldn’t have a few other calibres in my safe. Incredibly versatile with todays quality bullets. Good shout
Just wondering if anyone has done any chronograph work on the 7mm08 regarding Barrel Length. I am dropping off a 243 to get a new barrel in the aforementioned cartridge and haven't settled on a barrel length yet. Most of my hunting is in reasonably open country where shots can range from circa...
Fantastic responses guys. The 6mm rem was a standout in my safe as a cartridge that really should be more popular. The 260Rem another that has seemingly been pushed aside, yet holds a sweet spot for me and has never let me down. It seems a lot of the cartridges mentioned have the remington name :-(
I used to use them, and now they won’t ship scopes to Australia. They were excellent when I caould access their range and prices were far better than I could buy locally.
The 270 was the natural progression for one of my sons. In centrefires, he started with a 223, graduated to a 243 and now shoots the 270. His first proper red stag was taken at 181 yards, took three steps and fell over. The rifle and cartridge inspire a lot of confidence in him which is half the...
