Our draw results are out and once again I came up short.
Getting frustrating to say the least, 7 year wait now going on 8 for a muley buck tag in the zone I like. And my bull moose is now at least been 6 years maybe more of waiting..
I did manage a late season deer tag on the camp wainwright...
Alberta is brutal . Our draws are not available till first week of June , closed third week of June and you can wait till mid July for results . August for Mountain goat and speed goat ( antelope) .
Our draw system here is decent with a priority system, but the timing and processing the draws...
Work up to 70 grs with 160 Ab's and the fed primers.
I started at 63 and went up to 70 , this is a Lane Pearce load out of reloader mag.
I didn't achieve the accuracy in my rifle , but have enough H1000 to keep my 300 bee happy for awhile.
I wound up using ramshot magnum as my go to 7mm...
When our provincial Govern. Delisted the grizzly and put it on a Threatend spieces list they were only allowing 10 tags in the draw system. So in effect they done very little in the way of stopping the big bad hunters( that all pretty much waited for a good mature boar) as 10
Tags was minute...
Rem 870 wing master, 3" mag Fed Premium #2's or BB. Or if I'm feeling wealthy Hevi-Metal # 2 or BB.
Dad uses a berretta Extrema2 with the kick off system and a Burris speed bead. He has been having trouble with his eyes. The speed bead upped his kill percentage by over 50 % in the last couple...
75 gr V-Max for target and varmint, in my eyes the is only one choice for big game that is the 100 gr partition.
I have loaded for quite a number of 243 & 6 MM's , the success with that combo speaks for itself.
That's a strange one , they quite easily could have made it from .243 to .308, then it may have made a little sense. We have some provinces that have .223 and up as legal calibers. In Alberta we are .23 Cal and up ( making the .243 cal the minimum allowed for biggame).
Good luck on picking...
SaskBoy that's as good of reason as any!! I secured permission again about an hour and a half north of me on a couple thousand acres of prime bear habitat.
It sounds like with the economy the way it is here right now, the boys from Calgary won't be up baiting this year. So that gives us a...
Condolences to his family and friends. And a thank you to all who took the time to search for him. And lastly good on him he went out doing what he loved, give me a hillside with trees and my mutt any day over a hospital . God Speed!
I've killed a pile of critters with a 160 gr PT and some H4831..
Then I began experimenting and the 160 gr AB and RL 22 worked alright, I still favoured the PT.
Then just playing with different bullets and powder
I stumbled upon a spicey load with a 139 gr gmx and ramshot Magnum powder that...
My nephew and I have been doing the spot and stalk hunts over the last two years with no sucsess , but have had fun doing it. We are kicking around the idea of going to a full on bait site this spring but that is a huge commitment. I'm not sure if my work and family time ( 3 girls in baseball...
Ya it's pretty humbling to pull that rifle off the bags that just put in several sub moa groups, and proceed to try and put 5 off hand shots on a 7x11 sheet of paper..
I'm not a fan ofthe off hand shot but do practice it, even at 50 yrds with a rim fire is good practice.
Personally I would look to a 150 gr Sierra pro hunter #2130, and a mild load of Varget, 8203xbr, or BlC,2.
In a pinch Ramshot TAC maybe worth a try, I would defintley be making the move to a flat based bullet, I would do this to develop a baseline and see what I can ring out of a barrel. Once a...
My current load is with Hornady Brass, Fed215 primers , and a 180 gr Interbonds .
I worked up to 80 grs of RL-22. Using Interbonds because I got 200 (2 boxes) at under 100$ . That's a good deal up this way . I chrono'd it darn close to 3140 fps for a 10 shot string.
My rifle is a Rem 700...
I have the last VIHTAVORI manual and the quick load from above falls in line with the loads they give.
They have 2 - 160 gr loads one being a Speer grand slam the other a Sierra pro hunter.
I have shot alot of coyotes with the 75 gr V-max in the .243 cal, I never had a problem with runners. I found that some shots they were perfect small entrance and no exit . And the next time it could be a quite similar distance / circumstance and they would leave a big exit.. I still use them...
