    Spike hunt 1-24-2025

Great read! Isn’t that your GAP Built Rifle? I’m thankful that you don’t hesitate to take a head shot, and do it with authority, or mind saying so. I’ve taken a lot of head shots over my lifetime if it’s suitable, and with great success. That said I often, or should I say most of the time...

.338 Cartridges: What have played with? Which do you prefer?

In the late ‘80’s or early’90’s I thought that I should get a 338 WM for Elk hunting out West vs the Whelen I had been using, but I never really was able to get it to shoot well enough for me. It was the first year that Winchester brought back the CRF claw extractor with the B.O.S.S. in...

.338 Cartridges: What have played with? Which do you prefer?

Super cool! Man is that light 5.3 lbs, no wonder you mentioned “Sporty” to shoot! That’s a hell of a good group for the first outing with it, and factory ammo. Wby has really been producing some awesome firearms lately with Adam at the helm!

    A pair of NRL Lapua’s

Here’s a hunting load that shoots better than the load I use for competing. Same load, different brass and bullet. A 133 Elite Hunter, vs the 135 LRHT. I didn’t do anything other then pour in the powder into the 25x47 Alpha brass and seat the bullets with the same CBTO.

Thanks Mike and XPHunter! His role is he’s a chick magnet and anyone that loves Dogs! 🤪 He loves people! He’s a great companion and hunting dog, especially since he’s only 14 months old. Ruffed Grouse, Squirrels and Rabbits are his forte, he sees a lot of Big Game animals too, almost on...

Thanks for all the likes!! Much appreciated for an old dude like myself. The group measured 1.44” @ 250 yards, which equates to a 5/8” moa group…., Not to shabby for the Dogs I run with! 😁

    Finally !!!

I’ve only used the 175 PT’s out of a 280AI, vs the super charged 28 Nosler speeds. That said I once shot a Cow Elk up close and very personal, less than 20’ . That bullet went through the back rib to the off side front shoulder and exited! It didn’t stand a chance of walking another step and...

6.5 Creedmoor, VV N160 load development

Well I guess when I get posting I should look at the Year! Jim, did you ever get this going in the right direction that you were looking for?

6.5 Creedmoor, VV N160 load development

Good advice Mike and Scotty. N560 usually gives 100 f/s more velocity, but can also reduce barrel life if that matters to you? A lot of hunters uses it for that purpose, and don’t really worry about bbl life. You should be able to obtain H4350 currently, it’s been in inventory for a long...

A friend came by to shoot some .22LR at my home. Before we got started I tested the VV N160 260 load from last Fall and shot this at 250 prone. My neck was toast by the fifth shot I could barely keep my focus on what am I doing!! Maybe I need to spend more time prone and dry fire to stretch my...

    A pair of NRL Lapua’s

Here’s the two rifles that I use for NRL HUNTER competitions, and long range field matches like the Steel Safari, RTC, and such. A 25x47 in the background, and the Thunder Ranch Rifle in front that I’ve completed with now for over ten years.

    Should I? 6.5x 280 AI

Go for it! It’s an easy neck down process and lots of brass out there all ready vs FF. The SAC Modular die will allow you to size the neck right down to the shoulder. No donut from a std bushing only sizing 2/3rds of the neck. Yes they are expensive, but for wildcatters it makes sense...

Let’s be brutally honest here, you wanted to bash Nosler for your sowers with your inability to acquire a single bullet type for five years. I’ve read this thread from beginning to end, and what I found ironic was that towards the end you wanted to bring your frustration out on this forum...

    .300 WSM….Is it a Dead Cartridge Commercially?

More manufacturers are now making 300 WSM Brass than ever before! Midway currently has 7 Different Brands of Brass on their site, 4 of those are in stock too. Plus 23 different brands and types of ammunition in stock. Hardly dead IMO, and now there’s more than a few that make truly great...
