Greg and I are headed to Wyoming next week, taking one of each calibers mentioned above. After a few days of antelope hunting we will know which is best, only kiddin' of course!
Looking forward to the hunt,
All the best, Jim
I have not had this happen, even when rather frail bullets have been driven at 4000 fps or faster from .22 cal. wildcats.
If the paper target has more than one impact or hole I would guess that bullet failed in flight to the target.
I load to OAL in my hunting rifles, using off the shelf RCBS dies. These rifles will, when I do my best, group Nosler bullets into 1.5", or less, at 200 yards. My powder charges are safe in my rifles. That's all I have to say,
All the best, Jim
My Remington 700 (.264) likes the full-length sizing die, but only to the extent where I can feel the bolt close with a very small resistance. I try not to set the shoulder back. Also it likes the 125 gr PT bullet close to the rifling. It makes a fine antelope and deer rifle.
All the best, Jim
Over the years I have put several antelope in the truck-bed using my old .270 and a 130 gr. bullet. Easily its a 300-400 yd. rifle, depending on the shooter. Take the RUM along for back-up.
All the best, Jim
Prong-horn antelope are not heavily boned/ constructed animals. A bullet constructed in a less exspansive manner may not meet enough structural resistance to best use its killing features.
That being said, I have taken several with a .300 Win. Mag and a 180 gr. PT Nosler bullet, watching them...
Back in the '50s and '60s there was a lucky few that got to visit "The Rock" for awhile. There were stories about how cool it got during certain times of the year!
Also, there were rumors about the biggest Kodiak bears that might have been dispatched with a common M-1 and regulation ammo, just...
On page 8 of Nosler Manual #1 there is a description of the placing of the rear core in the formed jacket . As follows;
"The core is tamped firmly in place and the jacket crimped over the core."
I am not aware of any changes into that method, although there may be. I have used several 100s of...
Don't know about heavy turkey loads in an O/U but have shot about 250,000 thru an old 1960s Belguim Browning O/U trap gun and its still as tight as ever.
But it don't break as many clays as it did 30 years ago LOL!
I have two of the soft, green rubber slings. Got them set where they fit all my rifles and swap them around to fit. I'm not sayin' they are the best, as there are other styles out there to choose from.
All the best, Jim
According to Nosler, the OAL of the loaded 30 Nosler cartridge will be 3.34", making it fit in std. length receivers. I have owned three Vangard rifles. They were well made and worked fine in the .257Wby, .270wsm and .338Win Mag. Some have said that the Howa rifles are the same receiver, but I...
Don't have the 300wsm, but have fired some Fed. ammo in the .270wsm, much to my disappointment. Wild groups, no decided groupings and lightly loaded. Reloading of same proved to be a fired-formed case that bearly needed resizing.
With stiffer loads, that same brass now produces fine groups and...
