wouldn't the stw be to long for a 30 06 action?
I will have it cast, and find out but I wish I could find som info on it..
wouldn't one of the already loaded bullets that I have be able to tell me (my smith) what it is?
I ended up with a rem 721 bolt action that started life off as a 30 06 and now is a 300 h and h that appears to be blown out and necked down to a 7mm. was built by a gentle man named John Burris I think.
came with 6 bullets and some reloading data
160 speers
80 gr of t570
and mag primer...
there must be an art to that.
someone please figure this out!!
notes say temp was 73 altitude was 1300 ft humidity of 24% brom was 45 and wind was 0
group size @ 300 yds. five shots was 3.75" My best yet, I know not that good but I'll take it.
I will test this again if im missing some thing
so with the before mentioned load leaving the barrel @ 2700 fps shooting over chroony number one and setting chroony number 2 @ 300 yds. my average vol. was 2945.
hope that helps.
I will tell you that it a little scary shooting at your machine @ 300 yds. not a real big target.
hope someone...
Provided there is no wind tomorrow morning I'm heading out to the ranch to shoot at 700 yds.
will let you know what happens.
Any one have pointers or anything they would like to know or see done a certain way?
"wish I could find a job doing this way to much fun"
started with re 22 and had good results.
I am using IMR 4064 58 gr and have been very consistent @ 2700 fps.
I stuck with this load because it fell in my lap, I loaded 3 shells with it along with about 5 other "recipes" it was the last of the day, shot a 1/2 " group .
next day loaded several...
.257 hornaday round nose. 130 gr.
black bedding compound about 3 oz. needs to be used right away.
.338/300 brass unprimed and fired approximately 3 times will need to be cleaned and annealed.
to good home
I'm no expert.
but stepped it out to 300YDS to day and used "strelok" to get my minutes and shot a about an inch low pretty consistent.
walked it out to 400 yds. and was about an inch and a half low consistent, once again im not an expert.
I will tell you I shot my best 300 yd. group with it...
Got a yote on Monday with the .300 win about 15 min after some range time with the new bullets.
if I new how to post pics of I would.
he was about 40 yds. away and it was messy. so not sure I would post it anyway.
How fast can one hope to push a 160 accubond with one of these? How fast with the A I version and what benefits does it have over the 7 MM REM.
saw where someone had said 3000 fps with a stock 280 rem, but not sure about that one? would you be way over pressure?
