So I went out to the range this morning as it was relatively cool. Surprised how many old guys were there. In any event I wanted to simply confirm my 300 yard dope on my 275 Rigby and my 300HH. Simple enough one would think. Except there was a lot of good bull**** going on. I had dialed 2moa on...
The more I play with the quarter bores, the more I like them. Bonded and mono bullets do nothing but make them better options for a wide range of hunting endeavors.
Took another long, 7.5 mile hike into the North Fork of the John Day River wilderness. Got an early start because it was going to get hot. The trail I used has not been maintained in several years, did find elk tracks and sign, got in far enough I was less than 1000 feet above the river. Saw a...
Dale, I’ve got a couple boxes I think. My 275 Rigby seems to prefer the 140s so my 150s are collecting dust. I’ve got two boxes, that’ll get you 1/2 way there.
The first one is off a trail cam from near Boardman, number of years ago, #2 is my best, I’ve only killed two, from near Pendleton as is the last one taken by my young guide who worked for me in Alaska. The rest of my deer were mostly mule deer and a couple of Columbia Black tails.
Whitetails...
25/06 has a lot of fans here, surprised you are having difficulty. I”m sure others will check in with their experience soon. Do you have velocities on either your loads?
Welcome aboard. Off hand I would say yes, but it depends. :) Cartridge information and bullet would help. My 257 Roberts starts to fall apart with 110 gr. Is really getting interesting with 115 gr and forget 120s. It shoots just dandy with 100 gr accubonds or 80 grain class mono bullets. My...
Well I’ve spent quite a bit of time in this unit the boys picked to try something new. It is going to be a tough hunt. It had contained one of the largest bug kill, pine forests in Oregon during the mid to late 80s. Then came the fires in the mid 90s. Now there are vast areas of 20 to 30 year...
A couple of us did that hunt years ago, back in the early 90s. It was a good hunt but the extra work getting your deer out took some of the joy out of it. Good luck.
We gave them no quarter around our place in Alaska. We only had three dogs tangled with Porcupines in twenty years but when you’re 300 miles by float plane from the nearest vet, well that is a battle you don’t want. We would have a couple walk into camp every year. Interesting, as I write this...
Friend of mine has been guiding on the Alaska Penninsula for just over 20 years. His stopping rifle for big brownies is the 35 Whelen and either 225 or 250gr. Swift Aframes. Punches way above its weight class.
Big hike today. Didn’t see any elk or Mtn. Goats but we did push a big herd of elk off the trail. Could hear them going down below and found their tracks on the trail. Pulled 10 miles with a little over 2 grand in elevation gain.
