My opinion is the 180 BT is a heckuva great elk or whatever bullet. Compared a few of them in jugs and couldn’t ever see any difference from those or a Accubond.
Quick story, I used to load for a buddy in Idaho. 300 Wby, 180 BTs and a full charge of 7828. He used that load I loaded for him for...
Same here. It works well for me.
Another easy way to pull bullets is to put the case in your shell holder, run it up through an empty slot where your die would go in your press and use lineman’s pliers or a Grip Rite bullet puller. Lift the case up enough to grab the bullet then use your lever...
I like the 300 WSM myself. Like a few others I have the H&H in a P64 and the 300 WSM in a Kimber Montana. Both are neat rifles a guy could use for everything and with ADG brass out there for the WSM it sure makes a slick case for that cartridge. I have a pile of the old WW H&H brass which seems...
I’ve used many deprimed 9mm, 10mm and 45 acp cases to set headspace before I had comparators. Knowing the numbers you get aren’t real, you’re just trying to size for the difference.
I suffered a few case head seps as a young loader and quickly learned the false shoulder method to extent my brass life. It’s paid off in keep my fingers, eyes, etc and brass life and it takes but a few extra minutes.
Right now I have tried RS Big Game and SB6.5. Both of those are making 2800-2850 pretty nicely. Haven’t perfected the load yet. It’s been cold and windy lately.
I think they’ll work Steve. Right now I’m using them in my 7-08 Kimber Montana which has about the same OAL mag and by the time I seat them back to about 2.820 or so they are about .050 off the lands which is near where they usually shoot the best for me.
With a cup and core I start at the rifling, not jammed, but a square touch, bonded or monos I won’t mess with them any closer than .050” off. Saying all that, if the mag isn’t long enough for either I’ll start .010-020” under mag length for feeding and function.
I have been using a bunch of SB6.5, 17 and Big Game in my 7-08's. I can't say anything that hasn't been said, other than the 7-08 is a sure thing killer.
Anymore, I just think of the Accubond like a tipped PT myself. I have never, seen one disappoint from deer to elk from muzzle burn range to over 700 yards. They work well.
