I've grown to hate the 308 over the years. My nephew hunts with one and I can't tell you how many deer we have had to track that had good shots on them. My cousin who I hunt with every year has had two different 308's as his primary, he's a good shot, has been hunting many years.. and we track...
Time a resources have been wasted for sure. I'm nearing the 100 round count which is by far the most rounds I've ever shot trying to get a load dialed in. I did switch to IMR4350 which was an improvement for sure. I can ask Neil is he wants to try a varmint bullet. I have 85 Speer 100g HPBT...
How can I tell what series it is? I have never been a fan of Weatherby until recently. In the past I always hated that their guns fit their calibers and they were the only ones selling the ammo which was very over priced haha.
It belongs to my father in law he bought it new a few years...
I have 100g Speer that he wants a load for next. Do you suggest going lighter than this? I'm cleaning the gun and going to put more rounds down range later on.
Yesterday was a bad day.. The groups were terrible, even went back to what shot good with poor results. I'm starting to think this Japanese Weatherby has an atomic curse on it.. pun intended!
Left top was 65 off, right bottom was 70 off. I decided to go back to 60 off and that was the left...
I'm super happy for you and excited to hear about your trip when you get back. Kudu is a bucket list for me, but honestly any trip to hunt African game on your list would make me happy! I like your choice of guns to tag along on your adventure as well. I will live vicariously through you and...
That's a good point. I haven't done that because this gun gets hot pretty fast. Even with a two minute cool down between shots, after three I have to let it sit for 10 minutes or more. If the sun is out, I take it to the shade even. You're right though, larger sample size gets better...
I may make an attempt to go through my levers and list them later today, but it will take me some time. If I had to guess, I have around 40 - 50 of them. I've been buying them for a while now. I like to watch estate sales and things of that nature to see if there are any old rifles the family...
Maybe I'll try the seating depth first and keep backing it up. No reason to stray away now haha.
It's so weird to me, because I was taught to be close to the lands and have loaded that way for so long. I've never loaded a bullet this far off, ever haha. It's working though. This is also the...
Here is everything the same but .060 off. I'm going to try bumping the powder to some of the levels these guys mentioned in this thread. Once I see those results, I may put a fork in this thing and call it good. This time my 3rd shot was the one out of the pack. Maybe it was me.. hard to say...
I've became partial to Skinner peep's on guns I leave "open" sights on. They just work for me and my style. My second favorite gun aside from any lever is the 1911 pistol.. I shoot regular sights on those all day and love it.. but not on my rifles.
These next two are loads I already had together prior to JD's advice. I set the COAL on these to close to the factory rounds, which was 3.145 and a CBTO of 2.655.
The 117's were great numbers on paper, but a typical group of what I had seen with H1000. just over 2" (2.133) Best SD and ES I've...
The weather wasn't my friend. I was fighting the rain trying to get these rounds out. I'll break it up into two post.
This is my JD Special - .050 off the lands. 100 yard shots
I cleaned the gun prior to shooting these 10 rounds. My first shot was a fouling and temp shot that hit dead in...
I have a favorite for each occasion haha
Doing deer drives in the woods its my Henry X (modified) in 44 mag

Shooting steel fast is my modified 1894 in 30-30. Has a lot of work...
I have a Glenfield in 30/30 that is JM stamped. It is and always has been a really good shooter with a great trigger. I own 4 marlin levers, this is one of my favorites. There is a crazy story behind this gun, but I'll never let it leave the family.
My Dad bought it for my brother as is his...
