154 Hornady BTSP out of my 16.5" barreled 7mm-08.. So not real fast.. It did go 6 jugs, I was surprised.. Weighed 99.5 for a total of 65% weight retention.. The frontal diameter was disappointing, but I suppose it will get the job done.
I have a couple 150 grain rhinos that I ran into the jugs last weekend.. One from the 7RemMag and the other from the 7mm-08.
The 7-08 pushed the Rhino thru 4 jugs. It still weighed 150.5 grains after recovery for 100% weight retention. Very wide frontal area. Measuring .714 in one direction and...
I'm very curious to know if it is even possible to put 70 grains or RL-17 in a 35WAI case....
I run 67 grains in my standard Whelen case.. and that is a case FULL!!
I am also considering a new barrel and an AI'd chamber, so I am interested in what you get out of yours.
I have taken a grand total of one deer with it also. A poor unsuspecting doe in Florida. She might have weighed 100# on the hoof and I had to track her 60+ yards. she was walking dead away and the bullet traveled from just forward of her ham and exited the opposite shoulder. It had to travel...
I ran another one of these into jugs this week and the results were NOT the same. the last one penetrated 5 jugs and cracked 6.. this one was in the bottom of #7.
The first retained 67.5# of its weight and this one 74%. This one measured .543 .
It is not my first bullet choice, but my Whelen...
225 Accubond from my 35 Whelen. found in the bottom of the 7th jug. recovered weight 177.5 for 79% weight retention. frontal diameter .643"
I wish my gun shot these better.
Ran an oryx 250 grainer into jugs yesterday. QL predicted 2627fps. It busted a hole in #7 but was still in the bottom of #6. It weighed 223.6 for 89% weight retention. frontal area measured 0.750, pretty impressive looking bullet IMHO.
I believe the Oryx will get the job done.
Factory 1:16 twist.. I was not implying that it tumbled in flight, but with the one side compressed tight and the opposite side pulled away from the base, I was thinking it may have tumbled in the jugs??? I have caught a TTSX that was stuck IN the back side of a jug, backwards before. So I know...
I also shot a 250 grain Oryx.. I accidentally put the 7th jug on the rail backwards and when it exited jug 6 it deflected of the 7th and I couldn't find it. I'll have to load up another and try it again.
I shot a 250 grain Rhino bullet into the jugs today. Quickload does not have Rhino bullets, but most of my 250 grain loads average 2650 fps.
I found it in the bottom of the 7th jug. It weighed 250.5 grains for 100% weight retention. The diameter measured .800
Scotty tested this bullet previously...
I shot a 310 grain woodleigh weldcore into the jugs today out of my 35 whelen.
Quickload estimated it at 2380 fps. Shot at roughly 20 yards.
do you think this bullet tumbled?
I found it in jug # 7. It weighed 297.4 grains. Retained weight = 96%

Most jugs are 6" square.. and the base boards are 5' long.. So I should be able to set 10 jugs if needed. The side rails are only 3'.
My thoughts are I will normally set up 8 jugs and the first 2 will not be inside the side rails. I do not think the thin plywood can handle the expansion of the...
I've found myself shooting a lot of jugs as of late. I was placing them on a 3/4" sheet of plywood that I had laying around. The water displaced in the first couple jugs has destroyed the plywood. I found myself with some spare time at work tonight, so I scrounged up some scrap materials and...
Yes Gerry,
The Partitions shoots a lot better in my gun than accubonds (200 or 225's). The Pressure point I put in the barrel channel made them both shoot a lot better. I hope to run through a load workup with the 200AB and find something that works now.
David,
While talking to Scotty, he suggested a pressure point... So, I bedded a piece of rubber washer into the barrel channel and it has really tightened up the groups from this rifle.
Well Enough that I would not mind hunting with it now. I look forward to busting a whitetail with one of...
