Welcome to the forum!
As previously stated, he should be very happy with a M48 in 33 Nosler! (Sounds like he's a serious elk hunter?!?)
And the fact that you are doing your best to get him this in time for this season's elk season should tell him volumes of your dedication to him and your...
We went on a scouting trip today.
Found some fresh elk tracks, old moose tracks, saw a few snowshoe hares and some grouse (ruffie and some blues), 11 mountain goats and a quick glimpse of a big grizzly on the highway home this evening. Raised his head out of the tall grass along the highway and...
Where we live, porcupines are protected so there is no season here. (They are considered a survival food as they can be killed with a heavy rock or stick, and apparently one can eat their meat raw. Haven't tried this myself.)
I have seen porcupines of all ages/sizes throughout the daytime, yet...
The BLR in 308 referenced in this post was a friend's dad's rifle. It shot well enough tp put those whitetail on the ground with one shot each at 80 and 40 yards...so minute of deer!
My BLR in 358 will do groups as small as 1" at yards with its preferred load with the 220 gr Speer Hot Cor at...
I made it out to the range yesterday to sight in and try the new-to-me LH Browning All Weather in 308 Win, and dial in a couple of other rifles for their preferred ammo for this season. I mounted a Leupold VX-3 3.5-10x40 B&C Gunmetal Gray scope on it. It weighs 7 lbs 13 oz with a full magazine...
I have always leaned towards the 140 gr bullets in the 270 caliber (Win, WSM and Wby) as I hunt mountain sheep and goats, moose, caribou, and elk with them as, well as deer, so I like the little bit extra mass and sectional density for that edge in penetration for the larger animals. I do like...
I really enjoyed the fallow deer we ate on our trip to New Zealand, as well as the springbok and nyala in South Africa.
I have often read that the axis deer and blackbuck are two of the finest venisons one can find anywhere in the world. Definitely looking forward to those tasty vittles!
With the birth of a healthy little girl and the rebirth of an old classic, your path seems to have corrected itself!
Count your blessings!
Stay positive and move forward with passion and perseverance!
Nice variety of game , and cartridges!
Mouflon is also on my Bucket List.
Will be going after the black and copper springbok next May in South Africa. At the moment, it looks like I'll be using the PH's LH Rem 700 in 308 Win for that hunt.
My wife has the Black Hawaiian, Texas Dall and Corsican...
The way your 708 was performing on African antelope, I would think you would just keep hunting antelope with it, regardless of range!
Confidence is High!
I was thinking about what has influenced me over the years when it comes to the rifles I own or like, and the various cartridges I also own or like.
First, I think a major influence has been family.
While my family hunted, on both sides of my family, mostly it was for sustenance, or for...
Continuing on this journey of reminiscence...
Do you recall your firsts?
Make and model of the first rifles you shot? Rimfire and centerfire?
Make and model of the first shotgun you shot?
Make and model of handguns you shot? Revolver and pistol?
For me, they are as follows:
Rifles:
Rimfire: I...
My wife has a calf sled that we also throw in the truck when we go hunting...actually works on the grass and short vegetation pretty well too, when/if needed.
We can also put it in the back of the 4Runner with the back seats down, if needed to haul a deer or bear and won't get the back all bloody.
