That was the same load we used in the 22.250 as kids growing up. It was dynamite on goats in the hills. More recently we have used the same bulllet in our 223’s and it has worked a treat on smaller feral pigs and once on a yearling red with a neck shot. We can buy them here in a “super roo” pack...
I would be a couple of hundred for most. It doesn’t limit my practice this way and is good for pre hunt range sessions. However with the price of components these days, that regime may change.
What sort of speed were you achieving with that load. I didn’t even know there was a 70grain accubond in.224. Thanks for the heads up, looks like a great bullet.
I bet you can’t buy them at the same price 😜
Great shooting too, don’t see many 7mm Mauser improved cartridges getting around. I’d be interested to know more about it.
It is for that reason I shoot the 120nbt in my 260rem and have never once thought I need a 140 grain sized bullet. When I think I need a 140 grain sized bullet, I grab a bigger rifle. That bullet has been an outstanding game producer in that cartridge.
We load for a couple of 270’s and have had great results with the Speer 130 sbt a cheap bullet but more than capable for goats, pigs, deer in Australia and a good range bullet for practice. The SST’s by hornady also work well as have the game kings and ballistic tips in that 130 grain weight. We...
Great shooting and sorry to hear of your Grandpa's passing. Reckon by this time next year his old 30/06 will be snug in your shoulder and there will be another deer at your feet.
Actually beginning to wonder who Trump is in bed with. He sends massive tariffs against his allies, votes on the UN Security Council with Putin against the majority of the world, says the intelligence agencies are to stand down their cyber activity with Russia, picks a fight with Zelensky and...
The following loads all used varget and this is my go to load at present using the hornady 139sst, 42.5 grains - 2,833fps sd 10.8.
Nosler 140 ballistic tip all loads were adequate for hunting with sweet spot somewhere between 42 & 42.5 grains.
41.5 grains 2,765 & 14.4sd
42 grains 2,798fps &...
I found a pack and had a play. I could get it to shoot moa but not better. However I just used the same seating depth I had for the sst’s and the interlock which it really likes. Once I burn through my stash of those I may invest more time playing with the gamechanger. There is a lot to like...
I actually had the opposite experience in my 300rum where I picked up an extra 70fps by seating the 200accubond further out and improved my accuracy substantially at the same time. This was using Garmin’s little chronograph which has proven to be a good little unit in terms of consistency. I...
No they are generally not eaten. They make a real mess of watering holes which is pretty bad for other animals, as well as being tall, they do more damage to the flora than other animals simply due to their reach.
They are a feral animal here in Australia. Really remote locations where we hunt them. You really do have to plan extensively and build in redundancies around equipment for survivability given it is mostly desert type hunting on million acre privately owned properties. Not as smart as deer but...
