I got a chance to play with some RL-26 in my Rum last weekend. I was pushing the 250 VLD out of a 26" tube. I shot 89 gr, 89.5, and 90 gr. 89.5 gave me a nice 3/4" group out of the gate. Es was 18 doing about 3010 on average. That rifle had been giving me trouble for a while, it just wasn't...
JD, I knew that question was going to come..... I'm thinking it is either 60.5 or 61 gr, but don't hold me to it. I haven't played with it in about a year. It shot so good several times I loaded up a box of 50 and forgot about it. A good friend smashed a cow elk with it last august though...
I have 2 6.5 SAUMs now. A heavy one (12 lbs 26" barrel with scope) and a light one (7.25lbs, 24" barrel, with scope) and I love them. In two weeks last year I took Coyotes at 635, 454, 375, 685, 710, and another 375 with the 140 A max doing 3144 out of the heavy one. I also took a buck with it...
RL-26 shoots the 168 ABLR very well in my 280 AI, and is my go to load in it now. I'm getting about 2940 out of a 24" tube.
I also had great luck with 7828.
This is on my short list to get tested, but I have been focused on my STW with the 195 VLD. I'm leaning towards switching to a lighter bullet. I'm thinking my 1:9 isn't going to get it done.
A good friend of mine is using 90 gr of RL-25 with the 250 VLD in his RUM and it is shooting very well...
I'm very interested in this as well. I have a buddy that shoots 909 gr RL-25 in his and it does a really nice job with the 250 VLD.
My 280 AI and both of my 6.5 SAUM like RL-26. Would be good to get it working in the 338 RUM also.
I'm not that familiar with the Huskamaws. I think the turret moving could be an issue for any exposed turret type scope. I know it is an issue on my Mark 4, but it is much harder to turn than the CDS so if it ever gets off it's not much. The easy fix would be to have a zero stop but that won't...
I run several of these scopes. I find them to be a very nice compromise in magnification and weight for the hunting that I do. I run a VX-III 4.5-14x40 LR that I had target turrets installed on my 280 AI. I love that scope.
I recently got into the CDS thing. I have two other 4.5-14x40 LR on my...
I know that the 375R is a bit different but I have had very good luck with H100V, IMR4895, and Ramshot Big Game. All these loads have been with a 260 AB though. You might look at trying a 300 AB. I have been very impressed with the 260AB in mine.
It is a bit of a pain, but gives good harvest data. Plus I know that this is the year I'm going to win the good tag they give away for reporting on time. I thought last year was my year, but I guess its this year
I have been thinking about upgrading a few of the plates at my range as well. Mine are all mild steel. The 300, and 400 are 1" thick, they take a pretty good beating. A lot of metal has been moved around on them. I find that after I get out past 800yards even my 338 RUM with a 250 VLD just...
I had great luck with H1000 and the 105 A max in my 243. It was either 47 or 47.5 gr. I can't remember. I was susing Nosler brass, and getting 3040 I think. It shot very well. My rifle was a 1:9.25 as well. RL-25 worked really well also. If I had to do it over again, I would give RL-26 a try. It...
I have been having this same discussion with myself lately.
I think I have myself talked into a 6mm Creedmoor set up to shoot the 105 and 115 weight bullets. I have a friend that has a 6x47L and he has taken a pile of critters with it. I also have a friend that built a 6xc, and it shoots stupid...
That is a fine WT buck for sure! I have that Muzzle stuffer tag this year and haven't had much luck finding the time to get out. Passed on a few small ones, but nothing to get me excited yet.
A good friend of mine got a nice one with his Hawkins, not that big, but a dang nice 140 class buck.
Thanks guys. I really enjoy taking her. I find that I enjoy taking other people as much as I enjoy hunting for myself.
I'm sure she would be ok with that. But if you wanting a big elk, don't waste your time or money on Oregon. If you just want an elk, there are a few good units.
