.308 110gr varmageddon bullets in Single Shot 30 Carbine

H110 has been said to be the original 30 carbine powder, if not it's close to optimum. At a 1.940" LOA, 16.0 gr. of H110 has a 98% fill and GRT predicts 2125 fps @ 45k psi out a 16" barrel. I tried single loaded 110 gr. SP bullets out of my M1 carbine and the 1/20 twist didn't spin them fast...

.308 110gr varmageddon bullets in Single Shot 30 Carbine

Low velocities as in subsonic? If so, 4227 and H110 burn rates are too slow for the application. 3 gr. of Unique would be subsonic, but the chamber pressure would only be ~9,000 psi and have less than a 40% case fill.

Loading the 7x57 round. What is the potential

In my 7x57 fitted with a 24" barrel I use: 50.0 gr. of RL-17 pushing a 140 gr. NBT at 3070fps according to my LabRadar. I also have a stash of 170 gr. Lapua ammo that clocks 2632 fps.

    .22 Hi Power Chrono Session

That's a neat mount. Wouldn't it keep you from taking down the rifle, not that it's frequently done.

What cartridge do you think deserves more love?

9.3x62 predates the 30-06 and delivers more zing than any of my Whelen rifles including the 375 Ackley. Pick you favorite sub-30 caliber cartridge and the 9.3x62 and you're set for anything in North America

    Cast loading

I love running cast through my 375 and 416 rifles. Of late I've been using IMR 7383 because its bulky and I have a bunch of it.

    A Return to the 30-06

If the 30-06 factory ammo was loaded to the same pressure as 270 ammo, there would be less 300 magnum rifles sold. With RL-17 and H4350 I can crack 2800 fps with a 180 gr. bullet out of a 22" barrel.

    Bragging about overpressure

I was using GRT and with a 26" barrel and SF powder pushing a 130 NBT simulates to 3300+ if the rifle has a long throat. My 270 is a Rem 700 with a 24" barrel and I shoot 130 NBT into tiny groups with 57 gr of RL-17 loaded to 3.378" and according to my LabRadar it's doing 3234 fps. That's a...

Varmint bullet fragility jug test? Has anyone posted this here?

I would cast a vote for the Remington PLHP bullets as they are the only bullet I've spun to disintegration in a 1/7 twist 223 barrel. They hold together in a 1/9 twist barrel and are devastating on critters.

What's so Special about the 270 Win?

Owning booth a 270 and a 264 WM, in my rifles the 270 is the better choice with 24" barreled rifles. It has been difficult to get much over 3000 fps with the 264 pushing 140 gr. NBT with a variety of powders. My 270 pushes a 130 gr. NBT at a screaming 3234 fps with RL-17, while the 264 burns...

7mm Mauser - Even better with age!

I have a 7x57 rifle built by ACGG member Larry Brace on a Husqvarna action with a 24" barrel. Lapua 170 gr. factory ammo delivers 2632 fps out of my rifle. My hunting load is 50.0 gr. of RL-17 pushing a 140 NBT downrange at 3070 fps. With modern powders operating at modern pressures this century...

What's so Special about the 270 Win?

I was in the 280/280 AI fan since the late 70's and never owned a 270 until 2022 when I picked up a plastic stocked M700 in 270 at a local pawn shop at a bargain price. My thought at the time was that it would be a loaner rifle or a truck gun, but since ammunition was scarce and I had bullets...

    US Drone / Russian Jet

They need to make a "Trojan Horse" drone that has a massive self-destruct mechanism that is triggered when it is attacked in flight. Paint a giant "Don't Fark with Me" message in Russian on the fuselage as fair warning, then wait for the rats to come to the cheese.

    Bought a Donor

PM me with your email address and I'll send you load and chrono data from my 375 Weatherby. With the 300 gr. NAB I've been using H4350 and RL-17.

Who here loads for the 25-284 and the 6mm-284?

Long ago I would hang around the benchrest shooting crowd and gather barrels that were "shot out" for next to nothing. Stolle Panda tenons are the same thread pitch as Winchester M70, but slightly longer. While a 1/14 twist in a 20" barrel is out of balance for the 6mm-284, it was a laser with...

    308 with 175 Matchkings.

If you can get the 175 SMK HP version up to 2600 fps that will be supersonic at 1000 yds. The 175 TMK will be supersonic at 1000 yards with an inital velocity of 2500 fps due to their higher BC.

    308 with 175 Matchkings.

The 175 SMK bullets are not too heavy for the 7.62x51, as they were specifically designed for that cartridge. The 168 SMK falls apart as soon is it goes subsonic and you could see that in the 1000 yd targets. The 173 M118 bullet was a solid performer, but the dies were worn out and production...
