I've thought hard about one in the Backcountry 2.0 Ti, but with a 338-06 ULW already in the collection I'm waiting.
I do wish the Backcountry came with a slightly longer barrel in the 338 RPM.
Please let us know how it shoots!
The Axis II at least comes with the Accutrigger. I would never buy a first-generation Axis, as the two that I've worked on had horrible triggers.
Lightweight and almost flimsy stock. Watch how they do or to not contact the barrel. There are ways to stiffen them, but then they weigh more if...
You might use Flitz gun wax or similar on the blued action, and as others note be sure to keep it as dry as able.
You can always have it Cerakoted in the future if it were to rust, and in the meantime enjoy it as-is.
I inherited a 6mm Remington from a patient and had it restored.
Great rifle, and what the 244 should have been.
I have some 244 brass if anyone is in need.
I reached out to Powder Valley today, and they confirmed that Norma Powders were discontinued in the US two years ago.
That really stinks, as I have 3 rifles that shoot well with MRP and very little of it left.
Thankfully I have some ammo loaded for each, so I have some time to find new loads.
Unfortunately, it's usually true.
It's been 3 years since we saw any deer during deer season on Dad's land. This year's 4 a week ago is a recent record.
The deer I've shot were on other friends' land.
What does the old box look like vs new?
What are the different neck measurements?
I will be selling my 300WSM rifles, so will have Nosler 180 AB ammo available.
Fotis,
Do your hearing aids block loud noises? My Dad's will block above 80 dB, so they work as hearing protection in the field. He can wear them hunting or shooting, though will usually put muffs on when at the range.
He also uses Sport Ears, which will amplify and block. From what I can find...
OK, I was shocked.
Wednesday morning (second day) I saw a buck, then a doe and fawn, then another doe.
Unfortunately each was crossing the two-track I look down, and saw each for about 2.5 seconds as they trotted by.
Lots of tracks in the fresh snow on Wednesday morning as well. It's the most...
You were planning on 338-378?
It looks like B&C still makes the stocks:

I have a lot of Partitions, E-Tips and Accubonds as well.
However, I'm gradually working my rifles over to copper bullets and will probably sell the others. Between the excellent copper bullet performance plus lead-in-meat issues, there isn't much reason not to do it. One tank of gas in the...
I've used them in 270 Win, 7mm Wby and 300 Wby, and loaded them in 30-06 for a friend's elk hunt.
When they shoot well in a rifle, they generally shoot extremely well. I have had a few rifles (300WSM, 6mm Rem) that didn't seem to like them.
I have used them on deer, antelope and now elk.
I have...
In the two rifles I used this year for elk, both took "normal" amounts of powder, but got a bit higher velocities.
I used MRP in the 7mm Wby with the 146HH, and 7828SSC in the 300 Wby with the 180HH.
I do have both 30-06 and 300WSM, and notice a bit of difference but never find it to be huge. My thought was that it if recoil is the main factor in your choice then I'd suggest smaller than the 30-06.
I'm not sure you will see that much decrease in recoil from the 300 WSM to the 30-06. Per Chuck Hawks it's 3-4 ft-lbs difference with a 180gr bullet. At that rate rifle design will have more effect than the chambering.
As noted above, 280AI would be a great round, or 270 Win with a 150PT if you...
I use the 95BT in my 6mm Rem, which is a bit faster than the 243 Win.
It is accurate and works exceptionally well.
The BT is a much stouter bullet than it used to be.
Not a new video, but look at this one:
257 Wby - ULW with a brake. This is by far the best antelope rifle I can imagine. Extremely accurate, minimal recoil, one-shot kills.
7mm Wby - can't shoot them all with the 257, and hits harder.
270 Win - used 2 different Vanguards.
Took a 243 Win, didn't end up shooting one.
Took a 7mm Rem...
