My buddy wants help developing a load for the 130 gr. TTSX. It will primarily be for mule deer and cow elk.
Open to powders and any insight you may have used or recommend. I have used H4831 with great success in my 270’s.
Thoughts?
I have seen the 120 gr. 7mm BT in action a few times out of a 7mm-08. It is a tough bullet.
One deer was shot thru the ribs with s great blood trail for 20 yards. Another was hit low and it destroyed both front legs. A terrible unfortunate shot that was quickly remedied.
What I learned from...
That is awesome! What an amazing experience you got to share with your family and friends. That is the epitome of hunting!
Love to hear success stories from the 270 Win as well! I have found mine to be an amazingly accurate killer!
Thank you for sharing your story. I really enjoyed reading...
While my experience pales in comparison to most on this forum I would like to add my experience with the .270 Win.
I grew up hunting alongside my dad who had a Rem 700 in .270 Win. 22” barrel. My son now owns this rifle. My Dad loved the 130 gr. Bullet, 4831 combo. Super accurate and...
Thank you everyone! Actually this was her second deer. She killed one with a muzzy 2 years ago. She also shot a cow elk with this rifle last year. She is a great shot and loves to get out and hunt!
She told me yesterday she wants to hunt bear!
My daughter was able to shoot this buck yesterday late afternoon. Shot was about 80 yards slightly quartering broadside. Savage 7mm-08 120 gr. Ballistic tip handloads. Buck only made it about 20 yards.
No bullet recovery as it passed thru. I will add a couple of entry and exit hole pics for...
We hunted Region H. It was loaded with hunters and fires this year. Got evacuated once.
Only takes a couple points but in our case it took max effort to get these bucks. Super fun hunt tho!
This bullet is the 150 gr. BT (solid base boat tail, old version). This bullet hit the ribs about 5” behind the shoulder angling forward lodging in the off shoulder.
Both bullets did massive damage and put the deer down quickly.
So this bullet is what is left of a 130 gr BT that my son used to kill his deer. It center punched the front leg bone going in (about 1” diameter) completely fracturing it. It then passed thru the vitals lodging in the off shoulder hide, nearly exiting. There were other small fragments I did not...
Yeah agreed on the greatness of the BT.
The reason it did not exit is it hit the biggest leg bone dead center and broke it right in half, then lodged in the off shoulder under the hide. It’s also s tad on the lighter side as far as loads go.
Thanks guys. That is by far the largest buck my son has ever shot. He was super pumped.
The conditions of the kill were nothing short of miraculous. He missed “my” buck at 525 yards with a solid rest. I backed him up and dropped him. It was the last night of our hunt. Less than an hour...
My brother, son, and I were fortunate enough to go to Wyoming this year after deer. We bowhunted with some close calls, then went back with our rifles. We were blessed with 3 nice bucks.
My buck shot with a Weatherby backcountry in 270 Win. 150 gr. ballistic tip handloads. 525 yards.

Great pictures guys! Congrats on your kills!
My Son called in and killed this beautiful Tom this morning here on Utah’s opener. It’s his first solo kill. Very proud day around here.
