I’d put a 6x42 or 6x36 on top.
But you should take that with a grain of salt, all my hunting rifles have 6x scopes on them.

My rifles typically demonstrate they prefer a bullet weight or range of bullet weights. If you haven’t tried other bullet weights that could help.
You could also try other powders.

Agree with both posters above. In addition I have noted the best seating depth for ABs to be at least 0.05 off the lands, with several great groups at 0.075 off.

Just so I can reference it in a couple weeks again...
Here it is at 100.
Many of my 100 yard groups are not outstanding. This is 69.2 gr IMR7828SSC with the 165 Sierra TGK 0.075 off the lands. I can start with another powder (I have plenty of H1000, IMR7977, RL26, and Retumbo) and play...
Honestly I think all the companies make some good lots of brass and some not-good lots of brass. I’ve gotten bad batches of Lapua even.
To pointedly answer your question I think Hornady brass is a good compromise between cost and quality. I like Winchester magnum cases but they don’t have...
I'm seeing pressure with all the powders I've tried (H1000, Retumbo, IMR7828, RL26) above 3100 fps with this 165. It is a really long bullet, so maybe acting more like a 175 than a 160. The ejection marks don't really bother me, but I don't want to be wasting RWS brass by pushing it too much...
I took some time to get away from work to just shoot a 10-round velocity check.
After work I deprimed the cases and re-primed them to check the primer pocket tightness. This rifle just shows pressure signs earlier than some other Mashburns. I think I'm going with 69.2 grains. Right in the...
Thanks for the comments re: bullet toughness. I’m concurrently working with some 150 Ballistic Tips also, Nosler doesn’t recommend it for elk but it’s got a long and proven track record as an elk killer.
In general I’m using bullets that aren’t as tough this year, my 30-06 has 200 ELD-Xs in...
I'm trying to use the 165 Sierra Tipped Gameking for elk this year. I've learned a lot from using a 7 Mashburn/wildcat and I'm getting close to figuring it out. Much thanks to Bob, Scotty, Matt, Dober for their assistance.
Long story that I will omit, but here's an image of 3 seating depths...
The Mashburn is back from Kevin. I put some rounds through her Sunday after he rechambered her.
Speed is up, pressure is down. Brass is still flowing into the ejector hole but it could just be the brass. Could be the ejector hole has a rough edge, that would explain the ejector marks.
I had...
I got my 7mm Mashburn Super back from Kevin Weaver. I think it's almost all sorted now. Kevin reamed out the chamber again with a deeper throat, and test loads today velocity is up, pressure down with previously used loads.
Why velocity is going up with the same powder I don't know...but I...
Bryan Litz refers to the measurement as Cartridge Base to Ogive (CBTO).
I haven’t noticed a huge difference between bullets, but 0.05 would be possible based on different bullet shapes.

Impressive to see 61 grains IMR4350 in a 30-06 case, I can barely get 59.5 grains in a 30-06 case with 155 Custom Competitions!

Scotty with a 30-06 question! A cartridge I have a little experience with!
With 165s I have used IMR4350 and H4350 with the best results. 57.5 grains IMR4350 is my normal starting point, and I see you already found 2800 FPS. That’s about what I see with 165s and IMR4350. This is about the...
