Managed to grab 2 boxes. Have a good load with them with RL 19 but in the Texas summers, it's too hot a load.
Trying it with some RL 23 and RL 26 I have laying around. I'll let y'all know what I find out.
Yea, I've put one 30-06 back in the safe. A Mtn rifle my Dad bought years ago. This Mod. 70 is heavier and should work out to a lower FELT recoil than the 7 lb Mtn rifle.
I sold my Blaser 300 WM and got a 264 WM. Felt recoil is quite a bit less on that and yet I hated giving up the Blaser...
I have the v3 version and love it. Strapping it on the barrel changes the POI but I haven't noticed a significant difference in the grouping of shots.
I can't see myself without using a chrony of some sort and the V3 fits the bill nicely.
When working up a load, I will normally use it to run...
Part of the reason I'm looking at some 'non-normal' powders is to save my shoulder. Injury has me changing some loads out.
I'm playing with some Varget loads to see how they work for recoil in the M-70 and thought I'd look at RL 23 since I see folks playing with the RL-22. Though the two aren't...
Found another node at 52 grains but didn't have time to finish out the rest. I've got some loaded up to 57 grains for testing purposes. If I can find another node above 52, I'll come back and chrony some and post.
muleman,
Thanks for the QL info. I got the same info from another board and I'll run the loads up looking for any pressure signs and see if I can find a bit faster load with near or better, accuracy. I'll post the results.
The load was 50 gr of RL26. Here's the results of 9 rounds over the magnetospeed:
Series 1 Shots: 9
Min 2611 Max 2676
Avg 2634 S-D 24.5
ES 65
Series Shot Speed
1 1 2676 ft/s
1 2 2636 ft/s
1 3 2620 ft/s
1 4 2623 ft/s
1 5 2616 ft/s
1 6 2615 ft/s
1 7 2673...
I have 3 of the ZA5's. 2 are the 3-15 with the side focus and 1 is -10 (I think). I just swapped one of the 3-15's off of the 264 (replacing it with the Zeiss Conquest HD5 I just got). I'll move the ZA5 to one of the 25-06's.
I love the optical clarity and sharpness as well as the ease of the...
I found a VERY accurate load with RL 26 and the 117 SGK. 3 shot groups under .5" out of my 22" factory Remington.
Ran 9 loads across the chrony yesterday, average speed, well, take a look:
Min 2611 Max 2676
Avg 2634 S-D 24.5
That isn't max load yet but it sure is slow for a 25-06 load. At...
Finally got some range time, before the rain came in.
Ran the 74 and 75 gr RL 33 loads over the magnetospeed. Groups on the 74 gr weren't too good - about a 2.5" group at 100. They were still under 3000 FPS for the 3 rounds I put over it.
The 75 OTOH, shot sub-1" groups. Printed 3 that were...
Finally got some time to try out the 7828 in the 264 with the 142's. Shot a ladder at 300 yards. Though the 'general' group was about 4" I got NO nodes showing in the test.
I didn't get a chance to run the RL33 loads across the chrony. Maybe this weekend. Or next or the next...
Out of my Weatherby 24" Vanguard S2 243 I have two loads that print within 1/2" of each other and hold sub-moa 5-shot groups.
Load #1 is for the 90 gr AB - 43.5 gr IMR 4350 - 3175fps
Load #2 is for the 85 gr Partition - 37 gr IMR 4064 - 3250 fps.
If I can get some range time I'll keep working on the 142's and RL 33 as well as 7828. If I can't find anything that works there, I'll start with some of the 'recovered' powder from Weidners etc.
right now I have a node/decent group at 70 gr of RL-33 but haven't had a chance to shoot up to 76...
