    Efficient load development

I run the 110 AB in both of mine. One barrel has over 3500 rounds through it and I'm chasing lands on it. Still getting bugholes though. My powder for both is 7977. In one I'm getting just over 3200 fps (around 3225 if I recall). In the other I'm a half-grain less and getting 3175. Sub .5"...

    26 Nosler

If you shot the factory into .5" groups, I'd try and match the velocity of that load. You state your 6.5x284 shoots "into the size of a nickle" and you're satisfied with that. (BTW a nickle's diameter is .851"). If matching the velocity and OAL of the factory doesn't work, try a different...

    2016 Hunting Pictures

I won't be getting too mad at the whitetail this year. Filled the freezer in October with this Colorado elk. 137 yards with my 264 Win Mag pushing a 142gr LRAB through both shoulders with a second shot in the ham, through the pelvis and stopped in the meat of his left shoulder.

    Ultimate Test - 142 LRAB part 2

I also load the 142 LRAB in my 264 WM. Managed to drop a good sized elk in Colorado 2nd season. First shot @ 137 yards blew through both shoulders and exited. Entrance (inside of shoulder) And Exit Even with this damage, he got back up on his feet so I plugged him again. I nicked a twig...

    Ultimate test - 142 ABLR

I've been working on this one for a while. Finally got to give her the 'ultimate' test. The rifle Win Model 70 24" Pac-nor barrel: 4 shots on paper with a dose of IMR4350 @ 100 yards: Ran a few over the Magnetospeed - averaged 2794 The ultimate test - Live game - Axis doe @ 120 lbs live...

    6.5 Swede and IMR 4350, 4064 or 7977 and 140's

Ok, finally got a chance to check repeatability and run them over the chronograph. Results are, it IS repeatable! :D I even tried some 1x loaded cases and the group opened up a bit - to .495", the virgin brass is still fairly tight groupings - .411". Guess I'll suffer with that. The chrony told...

    264 300 yard zero check

Been a number of years back but, I loaned a friend a Savage 99 243 that had an old Weaver K-4 scope. He shot 3 times at a whitetail standing still at about 100 yards and missed all three shots. He said "I know I'm not a great shot, but there's no way I could have missed that deer all three...

    I'm a bad influence...

Good on ya' Ridgerunner! I too, am an enabler. I took my counterpart in NM out to Whittington on their steel course. He's all into handguns and AR's and hadn't ever really handled a bolt rifle. He watched as I banged the 500 meter ram a few times with my 25-06 and then I let him try it. The...

    Binoculars vs scope

I'll echo what the others have said - spend most of your time with quality binoculars and you'll never go wrong. I was lucky enough to get to hunt in Finland several years back. Their hunting 'day' is from midnight to midnight. No lights are allowed. The scopes we had on our loaner rifles were...

    Nosler Brass

This is a pic of a 243 90 gr Accubond recovered after passing through 6 1 gallon jugs of water at 50 yards. Muzzle velocity +/- 3175. Pretty rough treatment for any bullet. You'll notice that there's still quite a bit of lead left inside the jacket. Another view below: Side view: I'm not...

    6.5 Swede and IMR 4350, 4064 or 7977 and 140's

No idea on the speed. I loaded 5 of each charge and keep one to duplicate COAL etc. I plan on loading up some more and trying them over my magnetospeed. I'll report back when I get a chance to get to the range. By the way, the action on this rifle is a Mod. 70

    6.5 Swede and IMR 4350, 4064 or 7977 and 140's

Just an update. I ran up several loads of IMR4350 w/ the 142gr Nosler ABLR this past weekend. Final load worked the best. 45.5 gr IMR4350 gave this for a 4-shot group @ 100 yards. I'll load some more up to see if they'll repeat and run them over the magnetospeed.

    264/143 ELDX

I do wish they'd get the new powders in. I've been using 7977 in my two 25-06's and really would like to have a better idea of what the load ranges might be.

IMR 7977 load for 115 gr. Berger VLDH in .25-06

I've worked up loads for my 2 25-06's using 7977 and the 110 AB. One likes it at 59.5 grains and the other one likes 60. No pressure signs in either. Start around 56 and work up.

    .300WM winchester brass ?

I've had good luck w/ Prvi in my 243. Not so good with it in 7mm-08. In the 7mm-08 out of 100 cases, 61 had primer pockets too small to fit a LR primer in. The 243 has lasted 6 loadings so far.

I've got some 7828ssc. How did that work for you?

    6.5 Swede and IMR 4350, 4064 or 7977 and 140's

I have a new one in the flock - Mod. 70 LA 6.5 Swede with 24" barrel from Pac-nor. Was wondering if anyone had any real-world experience with the 3 powders mentioned and 140's?

    243 powder choice??

For both my 85gr partition loads and my 90gr AB loads I'm using IMR4350. The AB's are flying out at 3175fps with .4" 5-shot groups. Stopped trying different one's on that but the list given earlier is a good start.

    30-40 Krag brass needed

I could use up to 50 pieces of new or lightly used (1 or 2x loaded) brass.

    Silly question dealing with twist

I read somewhere that unless you have a significant amount of faster twist OR a significantly lower bullet weight/lenght, it doesn't effect anything. If I remember the example it was for a rifle of some flavor with a 1-12 vs 1-7 or dropping from a 90 (95?, 100?) gr bullet down to like a 50 or...
