Thanks Ridgerunner! That's awesome.
I'm using mag primers, I wonder if that was throwing the BR off a bit from prediction. Looks like I have some more room to go, I'll take it slow.
Mmmm, I think I messed up.
I measured again, and with the water slightly peaking over the mouth I'm at 74.1 grains H2O.
sorry! And thanks for the help!
Hey guys, can I ask someone to run a QL analysis?
SAAMI 280 Ack Imp
24" barrel
O.A.L. 3.400"
Nosler brass, 66.806 grain H2O
Reloader 26
Barns 168 grain LRX
I'm currently testing at 57 grains, at about 2815 fps, but I have no idea where pressure max is.
Thanks!
thanks guys!
I did drop some test loads, but it'l be a bit before I can make it to the range. It is a very dense powder, which is probably why it works so well with such an extremely long bullet as that LRX. I'm no where near being compressed. I also made some comparison loads with RL26...
Another observation from the Alliant site is most of their loads for the 30-06 and 280 call for a magnum primer (Fed 215) with the 4000 MR.
Barns data called out the Fed 210, but they listed the same components for all of the various powders in the 280 Ack load data. 4000MR was just the one...
This is the suggested powder by Barns for a 280ai and the 168 grain LRX. They listed others, but this is what they said was most accurate.
I did pick up a # for experimenting, but I think I've heard next to nothing about this powder. Do any of you use this powder for other cartridges?
I've been progressively going heavier. The 180 AB was my load for a long time, but then I started to favor the 200 grain Partition. Those partitions shoot surprisingly well.
Then last year I picked up some 220 grain Partitions, and they shot fantastic! I'm able to lay out groups between 0.75...
I got my Pac Nor in a 24" #3 contour. It's heavier than my original 24" sportster 270 win barrel, but lighter than my factory 300 wm Ruger barrel. It's not a light weight rifle, but I think it's a good weight for a walking/hunting rifle.
No question, go with the faster twist. There may come...
Yep, I know. I KNOW I could get the ballistic tip to shoot. I also like the 160 grain Accubond. And I do shoot H4831sc in a couple other rifles, and it works great.
I have no idea why I pulling my hair out over the Barns and Bergers. I may come back home to Nosler.
Thanks for the help guys! I have about another 1.5 grains I can go up till I get to max. I'll give it a try, but maybe not when it's already 92 degrees out
I have thought about the classic hunter. My rifle is set-up to be a walking/hunting rifle. I'd like to be consistent to 600...
I've been working on that. I did the macro testing, 0.01, 0.05, and 0.10. Closer seemed better so I tried 0.005, 0.010, 0.015, and 0.020. I don't want to do touching the lands for hunting ammo.
I knew the Berger VLD Hunting has a secant ogive, and would be sensitive to seating depth, but...
