No science here or opinions just a story or two related to the topic.
A decade or so ago I was invited to hunt whitetails in Nebraska with a family of four grown men. I had never been there and they had been several times and had places to hunt sort of figured out. On the drive there I heard...
I think midwayusa had the same or similar deal earlier today as well. I would prefer a smaller than 50 mm but it is a very
Good scope and a very nice price
The .375 wears a plains game scope and I use leupold quick release mounts so I can also use the dangerous game scope. The .17 hmr does wear a vortex scope. The “loaner” in .30-06 has a leupold while my favorite in .300wm looks sharp with a Swarovski-which accounted for the zebra rug.
The...
I have a couple high end swarovskis on a .300wm and a 28 nosler and love them. But most my rifles wear leupold an and I’ve gotten to really like the cds system. I started doing it for my girls when they were learning to shoot and now I have adopted it on most my rifles.
I have a couple mid...
Also a .lover of the 300 wm and a .30-06 junkie but I would vote for the .375 h&h. Lots of bullet weights to choose from, can handle large or small game and even dangerous game. Maybe not a long range sniper but able to stretch its legs beyond 300 yards with authority. I’m happy to use any of...
I bought one of the long range specials with the heavier barrel in .30-06 at Gunnies in Orem, Utah. Took the box home and started assembling. The barrel clearly had a bow or bend to it. I checked it with a level from the garage-sure enough it was bent. Took it back and the salesman gets me a...
I use lead sleds for load development but nothing else. I’ve never ruined a scope or stock or rings. . .
But for all other shooting I use shooting sticks.
I like both your choices. Long range shooting is by no means a western concept! (Ever shot a whitetail across a corn or beanfield?!).
You will love the extra power when trying to make sure you are Looking at a legal buck in areas where Point restrictions are in place. (The unit I hunt in...
I agree that you don’t need a solid and would hedge your bets with a good expanding bonded bullet. Hornady is the main producer for .375 ruger and I suspect the dgs or dgx would be great should you choose to go that route.
Swift has .375 ruger loaded ammunition in 300 gr with the A Frame...
Have points for deer in Wyoming for me and antelope for two kids in short term.
Long term is buffalo in africa.
Would like to go to Texas for axis and nilgai and somewhere horrible and rough for a free range audad.
Lots of birds to pursue short and long term!
Most of my equipment is RCBS-but the last few years I have started using a lot of Forster products and really like them. Got a little bit of Redding and Hornady in there as well
Used to work in this part of my basement. But this became a bedroom and my stuff got moved to the upstairs. Powders...
I’ll post up two but the same thing-my wife puttering in the fire-one in South Africa. The fire at night is a cherry on top of the day-every night have a drink and relive the events of the day etc etc.
the other is my wife cooking tin foil dinners at our camping spot. We got away about one...
