I have had good luck with that process, I will run a couple of patches of bore tech eliminator through them for the carbon fouling aspect but I never do a full bare metal cleaning after the initial one.
The reason I did the jazz was for the fact I hate trimming brass and I have had good luck with the 30° or better shoulder angle, IE my 6x47 lapua and .284 win. The chamber was throated for a 230 berger to where the boatail angle starts at the base of the neck. I also am a fan of the short fat...
The jazz will be done and picked up this weekend, still waiting on a jewell trigger to show up. I also picked up a applied ballistics kestrel, will let you know how they both work when i get them online.
NO DONT BEAT OR TAP ON A LIVE ROUND, I had a primer go off in a inertia bullet puller hammer just last week while pulling bullets. If it is stuck in the chamber it may not go off by tapping or lightly beating on it, but a primer is a percussion activated unit. If it does go off in the chamber...
I have bartleins on two of my match rifles and couldnt be happier. I have also had good luck with kreiger and lilja barrels. I won a benchmark and am giving them a go on the 300 jazz. 26" 1-9 twist 5R for the 230 hybrids. There are several top notch barrel makers out there but if I were to buy...
congrats mike, I have used the .284 in a few matches this year with the 180 vld, I will say that it is one of the most consistent and accurate rounds I have used to date. This is also my primary hunting rifle for that reason, yes all 16 pounds of it. Highly overlooked and highly efficient. I...
Nathan is right, the remington will "work" but there are better actions out there. Defiance and bat both make a 700 footprint lapua action, they also run an integrated recoil lug that the barrel shank threads through and they also use a larger bolt body.
I am using a defiance deviant with the 700 long action profile, it has a .750 bolt in it other than that its pretty much the same in regards to profile. It has the integrated recoil lug, rail, and one piece bolt. I bought another deviant for my 6x47 the other day also.
Its relatively new and using a larger .338 lapua case head alot of people will pass. This will do the same thing as a .300 ultra in a shorter case. I went with the 30° version to reduce the trimming aspect and have also have had extremely good luck with that shoulder angle in the 22x47, 6x47...
went to the jordan team match two weeks ago with a new guy I sold my 6.5x47 to, we ended up winning the match and I was overall high shooter by 22 points "11 first round hits". met some guys from wyoming sold an action and secured some coyote hunting ground. All in all a good weekend.
I see, sounds like it will work well. I am not sure what he meant by the .338 would be better? I was under the understanding the dimensions were the same sans neck diameter? And if your changing the shoulder to 35° wouldnt that be done in the fireforming process??? I have a bunch of the 230...
I ran a 22-243 middlestead " now someone necked it up to 6 and 6.5 and called it an SLR" excellent accuracy and velocity. I would run a 8-7.5 twist barrel and 75-80 grain bullets out of it. I ran 4350 in mine with 55 grain bullets "waste of time in my opinion you dont see the benefits of the...
Nice glass DF, the ffp will pay dividens if you decide to venture into the precision rifle matches, your all set up for it now. Top tier glass is money well spent.
Am building a new rifle chambered in .300 jazz "improved 300 norma with a 30° shoulder" Nathan from SSG was kind enough to rent my smith his reamer and make me some dies. This we be built on a defiance deviant action ising a benchmark barrel "normally use bartlein but won this at a match and...
I would use the ballistic tip or an Amax, the relatively low velocity of the .308 would be better used with a softer bullet. I have used both and both have similar results.
This is what I have been seeing for service charges as of late.
barrel 300-350
chamber thread and crown 250-300
action blue printing 250-300
fluting 150
muzzle break and installation 200-250
The bullet impact will tell you exactly how fast your really going. Zero at 100, fire at 500 or better and see what the come up ends up being IE mils or moa. Run your numbers through a ballistic program and adjust your velocity until it is conducive to the applied come up. chronoraphs lie...
