I don't weight either. I think after one or two firings (where the brass stretches, and you trim) the brass will get pretty close to evening out anyway.
Hunting ammo, you can get reallllllly accurate ammo without weighing. Competition shooters, well they typically use high end brass that...
Very nice! Don't rush the break-in. Take your time, keep the barrel nice and cool. Nice-n-easy running that cleaning rod down the barrel.
That thing is going to be awesome!
I know you went with the Redding Competition seating dies as well, but I'm curious what powders your considering with your 150 ABLR. It is kind of a buzz kill to not be able to use compressed loads with those Redding dies.
I have some IMR7828ssc, which I think will work without having to use...

This is a summary, but links to the original analysis. There is an .xls calculator, or just a pdf table for barrel lengths and barrel times.
QuickLoad provides this "bullet time in barrel" its the last column to the right.
I'm in no...
You would hit the "Optimum Bullet Time in Barrel" node 5 quiet nicely (if you are a believer). 1.228 ms puts you somewhere just over 3000 fps.
You couldn't quite make node 4 (1.1016 ms)
Looks very cool! (y)
But is it normal to have a 9(maybe +) month backlog on a rifle build? I'm sure it will be great, but man… that's a long time to wait. :?
I know you're having a 280AI built, but couldn't find our specs. What are you having done?
I'm in the component compiling phase for a 280AI (my Redding Custom Comp. seating die is supposed to be on the UPS truck today).I haven't even sent my rifle in yet for re-barrel (want to wait till after...
That is just a beautiful rifle! Wow!
I think you'll have to talk Nosler into turning on their production line again. Those have dried up everywhere.
Interesting…
I guess I like the 'idea' of hunting grizzly, but mainly for the excitement of hunting dangerous game. There are't too many animals in N.A. that really require all the horse-power some of our rifles possess.
I have heard that the meat can be kind of nasty.
I haven't gone there myself, but I need to. I use Varget in 3 rifles (223, 308, and 30-30). Plus it'd be nice to have loads from the same powder lot.
H4831sc is another one. I use that in my 270 win, and some of my 300 win mag loads.
Interesting… one benefit to the RL26 is you don't really need a compressed load to get max. A benefit to guys who have the Redding custom competition seating dies (like the one I just ordered). They don't work for compressed loads.
Kind of an interesting round. You can push a 225 grain bullet almost as fast as a 30-06 can push a 180 grain bullet. All with the same case.
And, well… there is the cool factor.
Did anyone ever figure out what the difference is between a 308 165 BT and a 308 168 BT? I understand the Custom Comp, but why another hunting ballistic tip only 3 grains heavier?
That's funny. Yep, 308 cal NBT in 165 grain had a bunch of them discolored. Looked like heat.
Interesting, but I didn't care too much. Although I do like my bullets to have that 'bling' factor.
