I WAS a bit surprised I didn't achieve full penetration. We didn't do an autopsy per se, but I suspect the bullet encountered quite a bit of bone. All I know is, he hit the ground right where he stood. The guide was quite impressed. I know it's a skosh subjective, but he said a hunter last year...
Here is a recovered 110 AB recovered from a large Iranian Red Sheep. I shot it in the Shoulder at 80 yards with my 257 Weatherby. Starting velocity was 3450. Bullet was recovered underneath the hide on the offside. Weighed 54 grains or 49% of it's original weight.
Had a great hunt this past week with some buddies on a ranch here in Texas. Our primary goal was Red Stag, but somehow I ended up with a Red Sheep, instead. Ha. Didn't see many large Stag that we could get a shot off at. They were very skittish. It's still hot here in Texas and the Rut is...
Don't know what it would do at 3600 fps, but here's what it looks like at 3450. Penetrated 4 milk jugs from 30 yds and weighed 59.2 grains. Barnes 80 TTSX at 3750 on the left of the AB, went 5 jugs(74.0). 115 BST at 3450 to the right of the AB, went 3 jugs(53.2).
Scott,
Sorry. I don't have the QL data you requested, but I think you're on the right track with RL-25 and the 110 AB. It's been the most accurate powder, on average, in both of my 257's. Really works well with 115-120 gr bullets. If you have any H-1000 laying around, give that a whirl with the...
I can not find this stuff anywhere, besides the internet. It's frustrating. I called Hodgdon and they said they're making it and shipping it as fast as they can. Where the heck is it all going? All the shops I've talked to in San Antonio, Austin and Houston don't have any, and said they haven't...
Whacked another Coyote tonight with ol' Roy. This time the 115 BST did just a skosh more damage than the last one. Hehe!!!
After waiting out a thunderstorm, sitting in one of our deer blinds, I brought this guy in with my e-caller. Started out with a Lightning Jack, but no luck, then to a...
1Shot,
No, didn't cut her open, but you could certainly hear the copious amounts of liquid sloshing around when I picked her up. Without sounding too morbid, I would've like to have seen a slow-mo of the bullet impact. The Hydro-static shock must of been off the chart.
Coyote that is.
Decided to go hog hunting last night. I had just settled in on top of a bluff overlooking a large pond, waiting for night to fall. Along comes this thirsty, young coyote and I couldn't resist. 257 Roy and a 115 Ballistic Tip rolled her up, should I say...rather nicely.
I was...
Bought my son a Weatherby Vanguard 270 WSM, 3 years ago. He loves it and admittedly, I do too. It seems to be a perfect blend of weight and balance. It took a little time to find a the right load, but once I did, it's proved to be an accurate little sucker.
The one thing, imo, that will limit...
Already posted this in the reloading forum a while back, but thought I'd post it here for reference.
Below are a few pics of a 115 BST recovered from a little 8 pointer I shot with my 257 Wby. Distance was 165 yards, deer was DRT. Starting velocity was 3450. The bullet entered the right...
Congrats! Should definitely be a shooter!
I have 2 Classics. A 25-06(1990) and a 220 Swift(1992). Both are extremely accurate. The 220 Swift is the most accurate gun I own, or have ever owned!
