Here's a thread I started back in December. Shows the results of a 115 BST launched at 3450 from a 257 WBY, into a Whitetail at 165 yds.

My Mark V 270 Weatherby Magnum! It's simply a true terror in the field. 130's at almost 3500 fps are wicked. As for the gun, I have never shouldered a rifle that fit as well or balanced as well as my Mark V. It's a real joy to shoot. Even serves as a part time varmiter if called upon!! He-he.
khh,
Congrats! Sure makes life much easier when a gun shoots like that right out of the box. My first 257 Bee was an S1 that did the same thing, only it was with Factory Ammo(115BST). Purchased the gun, had a scope mounted and bore sighted, then went immediately to the range...no cleaning, no...
Thanks for the comments guys. Yes, I was very impressed with the quickness in which the 115 BST dispatched this deer. I was a bit surprised it didn't exit though. Oh well, the bullet did it's job nicely, especially given the starting velocity. I can say, I've never seen a deer absolutely hit the...
Some of you may have already seen this as I recently posted it on another site, but thought I'd share it with my fellow Noslerbertarians.
Below are a few pics of a 115 BST recovered from a little 8 pointer I shot a few weeks ago with my 257 Wby. Distance was 165 yards and the deer was DRT...
IMR-4064...220 Swift & 50-55 gr bullets(nothing more to say)
H4831SC....25-06 & 100 gr bullets(most consistent powder I've ever used)
RL-25....257 Weatherby & 115 gr bullets (provides awesome combo of speed and accuracy)
IMR-7828ssc....270 Weatherby & 130 gr bullets (provides awesome combo of...
I have a 25-06 and a 270WSM. If shooting deer and antelope at ranges less than 600 yards, choosing the 264 or WSM over the 25-06 is waste of time and powder. The 270WSM is a fine cartridge, but overkill for deer and antelope. The 264??? Well, if you want cool and different..that's your cartridge.
My sons 270WSM shot very well with RL22 and 130 AB's, but only on the lower end of the velocity scale. Increasing powder charges towards moderate and high end loads really opened up the groups. Not satisfied with less than 270WCF velocities, I started to experiment with different powders and...
Yes, the 80 TTSX is working out quite nicely thus far. I tried 3 different charge weights of RL-17, with 55.0 being tops. Turns out 55.0 gr's provided the tightest group(.45)of the 3 charge weights tried, giving me an average velocity of 3717fps. I was a bit concerned about pressure due to the...
Will someone be so kind as to run the following data through QL please?
Thank you in advance.
25-06
55.0 RL-17
80 TTSX
WLR Primer
3.10 oal
Rem Brass
24in 1-10
Excellent input, all. Thx much.
Guess I'll back it down a skosh....at least during the summertime. This load was originally worked up during milder temps. The ejector marks are a more recent phenom due to higher temps I suspect.
Wow! At 72.0 grains, QL is showing over max pressure. Interesting. Is the design of the Hornady bullet such that it generates higher pressure than Nosler's? Nosler's book shows 74.5 gr as the max and IMR's data shows 76.0 as max. Hmmm??
I was merely curious about the QL data as my pet load is...
I load for my sons 270 WSM. It's an accurate little booger, but must have a slow barrel. 3200 fps is about all I can get using handloaded 130's before pressure signs show up. Factory ammo is about the same or even a skosh slower. Accuracy node is in the area 3000-3100 fps. I've tried all the...
What I've noticed with the 243 guy's is they always have to use the Ackley version coupled with the Amax and the VLD to prove their point. If your standard twist 243 won't shoot one of the long, high BC bullets, you're not going to touch the 25-06.
The 243 is a very capable cartridge and...
