Just for complete coverage I'll pick my Rem 700XCR in 338 RUM. It weighs 8 lbs out the door with a 4.5-14x40 Leupold B&C and a muzzle brake.
I think of it as a (Wanna Be) 35 Whelen.
onesonek hit on one of the major savings. Customize a load. For instance with my 375 RUM you're looking at $80+ dollars a box with premium bullets. How many boxes would I have to buy to try all variations of bullets in search of the most accurate load? It would then be a compromise between...
I agree with the 450 Marlin. In a Winchester 94 AE Timber. With the thin, hard rubber recoil pad and 22" barrel it slammed back and up. Bruised my shoulder and cheek pretty purple. I changed recoil pads and then it just slammed my cheek. It's recoil was fast due to it's light weight and short...
The model 70 I bought new about 3 years ago in 223 WSSM wouldn't shoot anything near consistant 3 shot groups either. I tried most things involving loads and lengths to no avail. If longer is better but limited by magazine length you might try a blunter tipped bullet and see if it magically...

You've proven that the rifle and you are both up to the task and maybe the customer is too. The question would be, why would you want a better than .3" group in a factory hunting rifle? I realize that it's good to have faith in the accuracy of the rifle when hunting but accuracy beyond...
I also had to do some searching for a load. I have 1in10 twist. I ended up with 42 gr. Varget with 2.15 OAL and a 52 gr. Sierra BTHP # 1410 and Winchester LR primers. Case length 1.665 . This gave me 3889 fps. and holes touching at 100 yds.
Good luck on your loads. I found it a finniky caliber...
What a picturesque place for a memory, and the picture with dad will be a treasure for the rest of her life. Great pictures and congratulations on the beautiful and exotic trophies.
I would think the growing number of AR rifle owners probably had an influence on the law change. Even California allows 22 center fire. I have killed deer with the 22-250 but to support DrMike's position I will say I have wounded animals with 25, 277 calibers and an elk with a 300 Wby with a...
It's a good hunt that ends with a tender young bull in the freezer. The tough carry out will fade from memory with time but the memory of the hunt will live on. Congrats on a sucessful hunt and thanks for sharing with those of us (ME) that aren't as skilled at outsmarting those elk.
