I tried 54.2 gr of CFE 223 with the 225gr SGK in my LH Rem 700 358 Win's 22" 1:12 McGowan barrel, and got a chronied 2528 fps and a 3 shot group of 0.720" at 100 yards. (ES of 28 and SD of 11.5) Win cases and WLR primers.
That will retain 2117 fps and 2239 ft lbs of energy at 200 yards. It will...
I just looked at those Kahles 1-6 scopes online. Look pretty good so far...need to handle one in person to see how I like the 3GR reticle. The closest dealer is a 4 1/2 drive from me, and they do not have it in stock at this time.
I know that I am happy with the 3 Kahles Helia scopes that I have...
If it ain't broke, why fix it (Partition)?
Keep it simple. (There is a valid reason why this us a principle - KISS.)
We have a choice when it comes to bullets; choose the one that provides the features and performance you desire, and that shoots best in your rifle.
I have always liked the...
If the high shoulder shot is a little too high, it won't break the back or cut the spinal cord, and after it regains consciousness, or the initial shock of hitting a spine projection that knocked it down has worn off, it will get up and run off due to its non-lethal wound.
(This happens more...
We all go through this!
We bounce back and forth on inexpensive and practical, to costly and everything we want...
In the end it'll come down to your priorities and budget. If it doesn't short you on other life priorities and commitments, and will make you happy and provides a level of...
Sorry, no experience or knowledge of this action, so cannot say.
There are a lot of great actions, and gunmakers out there today doing a great job in bringing us better quality firearms and products today. We have never had it so good!
There are also a lot of very good semi custom rifle makers...
With only 0.007" more diameter in the 7mm vs the 270 cal, there isn't a great deal of difference in frontal area between the two. (Where this would be of more value would be on animals that can bite back, such as bears, where you would want this extra smack from a larger caliber bullet e.g., 30...
Fierce also makes the 280AI.
I went with the 7mm PRC as they didn't offer the 280AI in the LH Carbon Rogue. So far I am pretty happy with it. Have shot and carried it some, but haven't taken game with it yet.
There are also fans of Seekins rifles here, and their reports are very favourable, but...
Some great feedback to consider above by some very knowledge shooters, handloaders, and hunters.
In the end, buy the rifle that fits you best, as this comfort level will add to your pleasure in its use, whether it be at the bench, carrying in the field, and shooting from various shooting...
I rebarreled a LH Browning X Bolt from 270 WSM to 6.5 PRC with no other modifications, and it is performing just fine. 8 out of 11 different factory loads produce 1 MOA or better groups, and this is the only rifle I have that will shoot the ABLR well; Nosler 142 gr factory ammo produces 3 shot...
A friend set me this link on Friday morning:

A stainless/laminate Trapper with big loop lever and Skinner sights in 10mm!
I ordered one through the LGS, and we'll see if they can get it...
While there is a lot to be said about the 30-06 and how it does a lot, and has taken a great many animals over the decades (and who can argue with those results), it is nice to have choices. And I for one, will continue to use other cartridges just to say that I have tried them for myself, and...
Have watched a couple of caribou hunts in Nfld on tv recently and finally made contact with an outfitter about a hunt, as not all outfitters in Nfld do caribou hunts; $34,000 USD. (A hunt in Nunavut starts at $20,000 USD for caribou.) I can do a hunt in Greenland for caribou and muskox for less...
Rifle?
Barrel length?
What was the most accurate bullet in your rifle?
Look forward to on-game performance reports!
I have a QuickLoad recipe for the 130 gr AccuBond and a max of 43.9 gr of H-4350 to try in my 6.5 CM rifle (24" barrel) that should get me 2905 fps, when I finally get around to...
I used a very similar set that my PH provided when I was in SA last year, called Viper Sticks.
Lightweight to carry and pretty quick to deploy when needed, and I will admit that they are quicker to makes adjustments with if an animal moves than most tripods.
As the high shoulder shot usually hits bone, and can tend to damage more meat of the back strap at the shoulder, I usually like the lower double lung shot that does not ruin as much meat, with less bone and heavy muscle (read steaks or backstrap) encountered for most shots where the animal isn't...
